Applegarth is a charming, well-equipped cottage in the heart of Cockermouth, praised for its cosy atmosphere, secure garden, and excellent proximity to shops, restaurants, and the Lake District. Guests consistently highlight its dog-friendly features, comfortable beds, and helpful neighbours. While most found the property clean and homely, a few noted minor maintenance issues and occasional cleaning concerns. Parking is off-site but conveniently close. Overall, guests enjoyed a welcoming and relaxing stay, with many eager to return.
The majority of guests found the cottage clean and tidy, with several describing it as spotless and well-maintained. However, a small number of reviews mentioned an unpleasant odour or areas needing a deeper clean, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is universally praised, with guests loving the central position in Cockermouth, easy access to amenities, and proximity to the Lake District. The only minor drawback mentioned was the narrow street for unloading, but parking is very close by.
Guests frequently described the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with many appreciating the beds and homely feel. A few reviews mentioned the double beds could be improved with mattress toppers, and some noted minor issues with the shower temperature.
The cottage is highly praised for being well-equipped, including a secure garden, kitchen appliances, and thoughtful extras like books and games. Some minor maintenance issues were noted, such as a stiff door lock, slow-draining sink, and oven gloves needing replacement.
Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as logs for the fire, books, games, and a well-stocked kitchen. While some reviews mentioned a lack of small welcome gifts or toiletries, these are not guaranteed and do not detract significantly from the overall experience.
