Barleycorn is a well-located cottage in Keswick with a secure garden, ideal for families and pets. Guests appreciate the comfortable setting and the proximity to local attractions. The garden is a highlight, offering a pleasant outdoor space. However, some guests have noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance that need addressing.
Several guests have reported a decline in cleanliness, mentioning dust, mould, and a need for a deep clean in the kitchen and bathroom. The short cleaning duration observed by a guest raises concerns about thoroughness.
The cottage's location is frequently praised for its proximity to the town centre and local walks, making it a perfect spot for guests looking to explore Keswick and its surroundings.
Guests find the cottage comfortable overall, with a particularly enjoyable garden space. However, some have mentioned issues with towels and a lack of homely touches, slightly diminishing the comfort experience.
The property is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and offers a secure garden. Nonetheless, guests have noted problems with parking, stiff door handles, and a lack of mirrors, suggesting room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.
While guests have not specifically mentioned gifts, there is a lack of welcome packs and local information, which suggests a need for more thoughtful touches. It is politely noted that while gifts can enhance the experience, they are not guaranteed.

We have been going to barleycorn for years now and when we went in June I said the cleanliness had went down hill, well sadly we returned again in September and the cleanliness was not at all any different infact the dust and muck was worse. This time I took photos. It is such a shame the cottage and garden is lovely and it is in a beautiful location but the cleanliness let's it down. We have been going twice a year and sadly we won't be booking for next year :(

Will start with a positive - the garden space is great, enclosed, and definitely the best selling point of this cottage. This is the reason we rebooked this place as in March we sat out in the garden quite a bit however, this visit the weather was so poor we didn't get chance to utilise the garden. I fully appreciate the weather has a mind of its own however, in our opinion the inside of this cottage is disappointing. Firstly, there is no information or a welcome to Barleycorn pack. On first use of the towels (bathroom and kitchen) they smelt unclean and we had to wash them all before using again. As others have mentioned, there is no attention to cleanliness as most of the kitchen equipment required washing before use and the bathroom looked like it needed a deep clean. Some of the door handles are sometimes stiff and make it hard to open/close the doors. There's no attention to detail or a welcoming homely feeling, it feels like it is just a money making venture. We have stopped in a lot of cottages in the lake district and this one doesn't measure up, it's tired and unwelcoming. As much as we like the garden space, we will not be back, it was too expensive for the standard of the cottage.
