Briargarth is a well-located and comfortable cottage in Keswick, praised for its proximity to the town centre, quiet setting, and secure garden ideal for dogs. Guests appreciate the off-road parking and homely atmosphere, with many returning for repeat stays. While the property is generally clean and well-equipped, some guests have noted areas for improvement, particularly regarding garden maintenance, minor repairs, and the provision of basic essentials. The welcome packs are appreciated, though not always consistent. Overall, Briargarth offers a pleasant base for exploring Keswick and the Lake District, with its strengths outweighing the negatives.
Most guests found the property clean and tidy, with particular praise for the beds and general presentation. However, several reviews mention lapses in cleaning standards, such as dirty patio doors, old rugs, and occasional issues with garden and exterior cleanliness. These inconsistencies have been noted by repeat visitors.
The location is consistently highlighted as excellent, being a short walk from Keswick town centre, shops, buses, and local walks, yet set in a quiet cul-de-sac. Off-road parking is a significant advantage in an area where parking can be difficult.
Guests frequently describe the cottage as comfortable, cosy, and homely, with exceptionally comfortable beds and effective heating. The secure garden and peaceful setting add to the comfort, though a few mention minor issues such as the need for updated bedrooms or more spacious living arrangements.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a secure garden, parking, and kitchen amenities. However, recurring issues include garden and decking maintenance, problematic gates, occasional heating or shower problems, and a need for more kitchen utensils or basic supplies. Some repairs and updates have been noted as needed.
Many guests appreciated the welcome packs and thoughtful touches such as dog bowls and throws, though the contents of the welcome pack varied and were sometimes considered minimal. It should be noted that gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed for every stay.

Lovely cottage in very peaceful location. Well equipped and comfortable.Agree with previous comments about the garden. The grass had been cut but the raised beds were overgrown and its not acceptable to have long nettles protruding into the grass area that are at head and body height of children (and adults).

Briargarth (10/7/26 – 17/7/26)Just returned from a weeks stay in Briargarth, we’ve stayed at this cottage for the past 5 years and since the new owners have taken over we’ve had problems with the back garden, it’s like a jungle, the bushes/trees need to be cut right back and we’ve always had to contact the office in Keswick on arrival to arrange for a gardener to cut the overgrown lawn. The fence round the decking area needs attention/replacing, very loose and dangerous if someone leans on it or holds onto it when climbing the steps.Paint still crumbling off the top of the walls in some rooms, needs to be checked, had the same problem last year.No rubbish bins outside the property so we had to leave all rubbish bags in the lobby at the front of the house at the end of our stay.Cleaning of the property could be better.
