Garden Cottage is praised for its beautiful location, ideal for exploring the Lake District with easy access to Keswick and local pubs. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and the provision of local walk leaflets. The quaintness of the cottage adds to its charm, though some guests mention limited headroom and challenges with parking.
There is insufficient information to assess cleanliness as the reviews do not directly comment on this aspect.
The location is highly regarded for its proximity to Keswick, the northern lakes, and local amenities, including pubs and a cafe. The availability of a bus service and scenic walks directly from the cottage are also appreciated.
The cottage is described as comfortable and homely, with comfy sofas and beds. However, some guests note the low ceilings and cramped spaces, which could be a concern for taller individuals.
The well-equipped kitchen and large TV are positives, but issues with central heating control, the need to purchase fire supplies, and concerns about water quality suggest some maintenance could be improved.
While guests appreciate the provision of local walk leaflets, there is no mention of gifts, so it is not possible to assess the level of thoughtfulness in terms of gifts, and it should not be expected.

Sitting on the south facing slopes of the iconic Blencathra, Garden Cottage is set in the wonderful village of Threlkeld in the Lake District National Park. The property dates back to circa 1700, and is one of the oldest houses in the village. On the ground floor, the original stone flooring runs throughout, along with beamed ceilings and windows that either enjoy views of the garden or the towering neighbourly fell range. Once entered through the utility area, a handy place to kick off shoes and hang your jackets, you walk through to the stunning open plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a hearty meal, although there is a very good pub nearby that offers excellent meals, so you could easily be tempted out for the evening. Cooler evenings around the wood burner in the living room are the perfect place to sit and recap the day’s adventures, or even plan the days ahead. The comfy sofas and a large screen TV could be a perfect movie night for all the family. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms, a double and two twins, with a family bathroom to wake up revived and refreshed from a good night’s sleep. Your four legged friend is welcome to stay here, and there is a lovely enclosed garden for them to play in whilst you enjoy the views from the seating area.
There are plenty of walks right from the doorstep, so leave the car behind and tackle the numerous routes up Blencathra, or explore the old railway line path that goes for miles and is enjoyed by walkers and cyclists alike. The A66 runs just past the village, and within minutes you will be in the popular market town of Keswick. Be sure to visit the Pencil Museum on those wet days, and on sunnier drier days, jump on to one of the launches that travel up and down Derwentwater, with plenty of stops to get off and explore.
This is a great base to discover so many interesting places in this part of the country. Easterly you are in the Eden Valley, or travel a little more north and you can walk along historic Hadrian’s Wall. The village itself is home to good local pubs serving real ale and home cooked food, a coffee shop for something lighter, and is very accessible using the local bus service too. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

Beautiful cottage and location exquisite with the mountains. Only downside was the fact the nearest shop over 4 mile away.

A really beautiful cottage in an excellent location for Keswick and the northern lakes and Fells. The local village has 2 great pubs serving lovely food and there is a local cafe too. Keswick town centre is a 10 minute drive away or a pleasant 3 mile walk along the old railway line. The only downside to the cottage is there is no manual control for the central heating and this was an issue drying out walking gear on wet days.

Garden Cottage ideally situated for you to visit the Lake District and for you to enjoy walks on the Hills without using your car. A great bus service though the village to allow you to explore without you having to drive. The only let down was that there was no initial supply of wood for the fire, we had to buy fire lighter, kindling and logs, other than that we had a very enjoyable holiday. We had several visits to the Horse and Farrier for meals which were excellent.
