Cockermouth 6.9 miles. Squirrel Cottage is a charming end-terrace cottage resting in the picturesque village of Bassenthwaite, Cumbria. Boasting character features throughout and a garden with spectacular views over the stunning Lake District National Park, this cottage is perfectly suited to a small family or active group of friends looking to discover the varying terrains of this wonderful area. Entering the property, the living and dining room invites you in to enjoy the space with your friends and family; gather to enjoy tasty home-cooked meals before settling into the plush sofas to watch the TV after a long of exploring your surroundings. Take advantage of the kitchen and rustle up delicious meals on the electric double oven and hob, or perhaps prepare a pot of tea to enjoy in the conservatory while admiring the views of the fells. As the evening draws to a close, head to the bedrooms for some well-earned rest; the cottage hosts a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, each have been thoughtfully decorated with neutral colours and quality storage for your belongings. Guests will also benefit from a bathroom complete with a bath, a shower over, a basin and a WC, where you can freshen up ahead of another busy day of exploring. Spend your summer evenings dining al fresco in the garden; the lovely lawned area is home to a picnic bench, providing a tranquil spot for your morning coffee. Treat your group to a meal out in The Sun Inn, offering a traditional menu and good real ales. For days out while at the cottage, The Lake District Wildlife Park is within easy reach and offers a day of discovering a world of exotic species and native wildlife, making for a fun-filled day for animal lovers and younger members of your group. Conveniently located within the Lake District National Park, Squirrel Cottage has an abundance of walking and cycling routes of varying difficulties; you will be spoilt for choice with the range of terrains to explore, up the peaks, through the valleys and of course, along the picture-perfect lakesides. Slightly further afield is the thriving town of Keswick, which is home to plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés to fuel your excursions throughout your stay. For a day of exploring, visit the Aira Waterfall which is partly reachable by car, before setting off on foot through the nature trails to reach the cascading waters and stunning view points across the magnificent landscapes. The market town of Cockermouth rests in the north west of the Lake District, offering a largely unspoilt area of bountiful views of varying landscapes. Just 13 miles away from the bustling town of Keswick, Cockermouth is most famous for being the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian. Cockermouth now offers a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants and makes for a peaceful holiday destination any time of year.
