The Garden Flat is a superb ground floor apartment at Badgers Rake with views over the fell. It is warm and comfortable with leather sofa and chair, dining table and chairs, a well-equipped kitchen and patio doors leading to spacious communal garden. With its enviable position above the village of Ambleside with magnificent views over Loughrigg and the surrounding fells, it is still just a short walk to the centre of Ambleside and all the local shops, bars and restaurants. From the front door, you can access Wansfell, amazing views and great walks.

    An excellent location with fine views.The only downside was the poor TV reception.

    We had the opinion that the appartment was recently undergoing a renovation as plaster and wallpaper is missing in the kitchen and under the fireplace which is not shown on the internet photos. Reading through older comments guest already had this opinion last year so nothing has been done in the meantime.The bedroom is a bit outdated and only queen-size bed - being German and not being used to a single duvet didn't help with the small bed. The kitchen is new and very clean and very well equipped which was a great bonus. Also the bathroom is new but still needs smaller work done in different areas. The setting and the view is outstanding. It is quite a walk uphill back from town but manageable if you like hiking.It was our first time in the Lake District and we found Ambleside being the perfect town for nice restaurants, cute little shops and great pubs. All in all a very good holiday but due to the above mentioned reasons would stay somewhere else next time.

    We arrived to find the property mid-renovation. The standard of decoration in the kitchen, living area and bedroom were not 4 star, as the property is sold as. The photographs are not representative as they conveniently leave out the back to plaster walls in the kitchen, the wallpaper coming away in the living room and the very dated decor of the bedroom. Some of the furniture in the living area was covered in cobwebs. I am shocked by the previous reviews of this property having stayed there. The parking is extremely tight, the passenger having to vacate the car before parking, having to back in and park an inch from a wall in order to exit the vehicle and leave enough room for the car next to you. If you have a larger than average car you may not even be able to fit and have to park elsewhere. On the plus side, the new kitchen units and shower room are very nice, the view from the apartment is amazing and access to large garden was a bonus. Overall very disappointed.
