Derwentwater at the Graythwaite Estate is praised for its stunning location, peaceful surroundings, and excellent access to walks, lakes, and local pubs. Guests appreciate the pet-friendly environment, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchens. While many found the cottage clean and welcoming, some noted areas needing maintenance and occasional lapses in cleanliness. WiFi and outdoor furniture could be improved, and a few guests mentioned the lack of thoughtful extras. Overall, the property offers a charming Lake District retreat, especially for dog owners and walkers.
Most guests found the cottage clean on arrival, with laundered linens and tidy interiors. However, several reviews mention missed details such as dog waste on patios, lipstick on glasses, and occasional musty smells or worn carpets. Cleanliness is generally good but can be inconsistent.
The location is consistently described as outstanding, with beautiful views, tranquillity, and direct access to lakes and walking routes. Proximity to Hawkshead and local pubs is a major highlight for guests.
Guests frequently mention comfortable beds, cosy interiors, and a peaceful atmosphere. Some note issues with heating, creaky beds, or draughts, but overall comfort is rated highly, especially for couples and small families.
Facilities are generally good, with well-equipped kitchens and pet-friendly features. However, guests report maintenance issues such as worn furniture, broken blinds, unreliable WiFi, and missing cleaning tools. Some amenities like dishwashers or recycling are absent, and outdoor areas could be better maintained.
A few guests mention welcome packs, but these are inconsistent and sometimes disappointing. Essentials like logs for the fire, cleaning materials, and kitchen basics are not always provided. Please note that gifts or extras are not guaranteed.

Would have been nice if there was more than one hand towel (and even that had a hole in it); more than one wine glass (the property accommodates 4 people); some glasses for shorts/juice; some hand wash; some washing-up liquid; and a starter pack of logs and kindling. It's a shame that the path to the lake has been closed off; and it would have been helpful if the patio door key was not hidden in a drawer.

This was one of the main appeals of this property which I have been visiting for many years. Also the terrace furniture really needs a good paint/overhaul. Only 2 outside chairs for a property that sleeps 4. Also a shelf in the shower would be a great help. A beautiful setting and surround. Thank you
Stan
I understand maybe the cleaners donât have much time to complete the cleaning. Items were left in a cupboard . Fridge are too small considering you are self catering items are wet.you need to get a tall fridge and fezzes.maybe when cottage are quiet do a spring clean
