Gale Lodge Cottage in Ambleside is highly praised for its prime location, comfort, and well-equipped facilities. Guests appreciate the property's character, ample space, and the convenience of private bathrooms for each bedroom. The conservatory is a highlight, offering beautiful views and a relaxing space. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the quick response from the service team is commended. The property's charm and amenities make it a favourite for many, with several guests returning and planning future stays.
Most guests found the cottage to be comfortable and well-equipped, though there were isolated mentions of cleaning issues and unprepared beds. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule, as repeat visits suggest overall satisfaction with the cleanliness.
The location of Gale Lodge Cottage is consistently lauded for being close to local shops, restaurants, and walking areas. The convenience of having a parking space in such a busy area is also highly valued by the guests.
Guests frequently mention the comfort of the beds and the cosiness of the cottage, with its period features and spacious rooms. The property provides a comfortable stay, though some guests noted the presence of uneven floorboards and steps.
The cottage is praised for its well-equipped kitchen, ample space, and additional amenities like a boot room and conservatory. However, some guests reported issues with heating, hot water, and internet connectivity, which were promptly addressed but still affected the overall experience.

Retaining its traditional character as part of a 17thC gentleman’s residence, this elegant Lodge Cottage provides sophisticated living space and true relaxation with far-reaching views over the village to the Lakeland Fells.
Entrance porch, spacious hall, fitted-out 'boot room' and ground floor shower room / WC. Well equipped 'farmhouse' kitchen with large dining table. Bright and spacious lounge, with elegant oak beams, relaxing furniture and wood-burner fireplace, leads to the conservatory and twin bedroom on the ground floor with access to the private patio. Upstairs is the spacious master bedroom, panoramic window and luxury en-suite with double-ended bath. The second cosy, kingsize bedroom with contemporary shower room. Ambleside is a contemporary, characterful Lakeland village with a spectacular backdrop of Lake District fells. Ideal for walking, cycling or boating activities, it is also a lovely spot for contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, award-winning Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs. There are 2 cinemas, a Jazz bar and the Lake Cruises leave regularly from Waterhead, a great way to explore without driving. The tiny 'Bridge House' is one of the most photographed places here, sat on a bridge in the middle of the village. There is also the remains of a Roman fort, Galava. One of William Wordsworth's former family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens. His Grasmere home, Dove Cottage, is also worth a visit and only a short drive away on the scenic A591. You can also head over the equally scenic Kirkstone Pass to the beautiful Ullswater Valley.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
