The Rockery, refurbished in 2023 with a water feature standing proud in the front garden as you arrive, is ideally situated between Keswick, Carlisle and Penrith in an unspoilt tranquil location and is perfect for large families and groups of friends holidaying together. Situated in the village of Shap, known locally as the ‘Gateway to the Fells and Lakes’, being on the eastern edge of the Lake District National Park and close to the second largest lake in the Lake District - Ullswater. The village offers a wide range of amenities including a good selection of pubs, shops, a public outdoor heated swimming pool, a children’s play area and tennis courts.
The Eden Valley provides superb walking and cycling, and the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales are easy to visit too. The atmospheric, rugged area of Haweswater, 8 miles, has a viewpoint for golden eagles, pretty villages and bustling market towns abound, with a lively calendar of farmers’ markets and county shows. There is plenty of local produce to purchase or enjoy in the many restaurants and pubs serving regional favourites. There is also excellent road access to the historic border city of Carlisle with its castle and museum, and Hadrian’s Wall, a World Heritage Site, has interesting exhibitions to visit. The Northumberland National Park and southern Scotland are both within an hour’s drive. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
The Rockery can be booked together with Primrose Cottage (UK1039) to accommodate up to 12 guests.

Booked for 2 weeks. 1st week with extended family, second week with friends. Disappointed that there was no clean linen/.towels to accommodate this. The shower in the Jack 'n Jill bathroom did not work and there was a leak from the sink in the downstairs toilet. The shower in the en-suite was very poor, so the main bathroom was very busy to service 9 people. There is no Wii as stated in the second sitting room, again, disappointed as we could have brought our own. On a positive, the kitchen was well equipped and a nice touch with the Christmas tree. The log burner was well used. The beds were very comfy and nice sized rooms. The parking got a bit mixed up with the cottage next door, but we parked 3, 4 wheel drives and a van, with a bit of communication with next door. The cottage would benefit with a very good clean as the cob webs and dust are taking over, but didn't spoil our stay

Despite a couple of problems with two separate showers that limited our facilities, this is a fantastic property in an incredibly beautiful part of the world and a wonderful time was had by all of our group, so a full 5 stars from us. Highly recommended for a stay at any time of the year.

All really good, great price for the house, lovely log burner topped it off, the space was a lot bigger than we expected which is always a lovely surprise, only thing was there was an isue with unlocking the front door, use of the back door was fine other than when someone knocked on the front door
