The property itself is perfectly placed in Bowness on Windermere, with an abundance of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants all within walking distance, as well as many of the lakes’ finest attractions. Take a cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or across to Lakeside to enjoy a day at The Aquarium or hop on the steam train to Haverthwaite. Alternatively, try your hand at sailing and hire your boat for a few hours. Paddle boarding is also a popular activity on the lake, so if you have one, then it’s certainly worth bringing it along.
Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to Beatrix Potter World and the wonderful Art Deco Royalty Cinema. If you’re feeling energetic, so many walks can be found nearby including ’Orrest Head’ in Windermere, a relatively short walk offering spectacular views over Lake Windermere. Some of the Lake District’s fantastic fells are a mere short drive away, as well as the small ’Alpine’ village of Grasmere, where William Wordsworth is laid to rest at St. Oswald’s Church, and if you’re a fan of Gingerbread, a visit to Grasmere Gingerbread shop is a must!

We had a lovely stay at the slate burrow and relaxed well as intended, it had everything that was listed and looked just like the photos. The only things was the shower didnt work and the shower hose was very dirty (thick black mold) and the bath was dirty too. The fire wasnt working at all and the people who live/stay above were ridiculously noisy at all kinds of hours!! The slate burrow is in a great location close to all local shops and restaurants and a good base to get around the lakes.

The apartment looked like the photos. The location was great, 5 mins walk to the pubs. There is a parking slot for the cottage however difficult to maneuver with a large car, so keep in mind. Unfortunately the electric fireplace wasnt working Overall we had a great time and the location was very central as it allowed us to explore all the beautiful villages with just a few minutes drive.

Great stay at Slate Burrow. Everything you see is exactly as it is, very clean, modern, comfortable and homely. All ground floor, nice big open lounge and kitchen, like home from home. Bathroom is big and has huge amount of storage space, along with a clothes rail in the bedroom. The bed is so so comfy, if you like it soft. Parking space right outside is slightly on the tighter side if you have a larger car but can be done. If not, there is also plenty of parking around on the streets. As for location, amazing! Walkable distance to all of the restaurants and pubs etc. We fell in love with Windermere and will be sure to stay again soon. Thank you for the great easy stay.
