Stroll along the waterfront as you watch fishing boats bob along the water or hop on a boat trip to Coquet Island (2 miles), home to a protected colony of puffins and grey seals. For a day at the beach, the golden sands of Amble Sands (800 metres), Druidge Bay, Warkworth Beach and Alnmouth are all within 6.5 miles and perfect for sandcastle building and refreshing coastal walks. History buffs will be itching to explore Alnwick Castle (9 miles), famous for its connections to Harry Potter and where visitors can learn to fly a broomstick before losing themselves in the bamboo labyrinth at Alnwick Garden. Avid walkers are well served, too. Follow the Northumberland Coast Path (joined at Amble Harbour), where rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and sweeping sea views stretch for miles.

Gather around the crackling log burner and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while the rest of the family finds their spot on the deep, comfortable sofas. The sleek kitchen/diner is equipped with everything needed to concoct your tastiest dishes to serve at the solid six-seater dining table. The utility room is a handy feature for holiday washing. Upstairs are three calming bedrooms, each with crisp linens and decorated in soothing hues. There are two king-size bedrooms – one with a Smart TV for long lie-ins – and a charming twin bedroom. Also on this floor is the shared modern bathroom, with a walk-in shower, bath and WC.
