About this property

Whiteadder Bank is a superb four-bedroom holiday home. It is ideally situated beside Whiteadder Water with views of the river and the farmland beyond from every room. The river is home to heron, salmon, otters and even the occasional seal. It may feel like a true escape from city-life but the friendly, historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, with its numerous attractions and amenities is just a short drive away.

Recently renovated, this former pair of shepherds’ cottages has been turned into an immaculately laid out, luxurious family retreat. All four bedrooms have an excellent views over the river making them the perfect place to take a pair of binoculars and spot some wildlife!

Downstairs is a large well-equipped kitchen, whilst the spacious living and dining rooms have large French windows that open onto the suntrap terrace and extensive garden so that, in the summer, you can enjoy the best of indoor-outdoor living.

To the side of the house, a patio with a rustic table, seating eight, makes it easy and enticing to eat, drink and relax outside. In the winter, the thick lined curtains and wood burning stove give the house a homely hideaway feel.

Whiteadder Bank is situated at Canty’s Brig, a quiet hamlet between Berwick-upon- Tweed and Paxton village.

There is a beautiful river walk through the woods to the nearest pub, The Cross Inn, just across the border in Scotland. Alternatively, take the path along the River Tweed to Paxton House, a Georgian mansion open to the public set in 80 acres of woodland and gardens.

Take a long walk in the other direction along the Tweed to Berwick and visit the impressive Royal Border Bridge.

More adventurous guests can head to the Cheviot or Lammermuir hills for more challenging hikes.

Nearby are beautiful beaches, coastal paths and many tourist attractions; the wide expanses of Cocklawburn, Cheswick and Goswick beaches are a short car journey away.

Lindisfarne is 15 miles away, Bamburgh Castle is 22 miles away and Etal Castle with its popular light railway is 12 miles away. A scenic minute drive north brings you to the stunning coastal paths at Coldingham and St Abbs Head.

Berwick-upon-Tweed only 2.9 miles away offers a variety of independent shops, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants, as well as the Maltings cinema and theatre.

The station is on the main railway line between London and Edinburgh.

Whiteadder Bank is in a great destination perfect for both relaxing and exploring the whole of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

Tweedmouth is a settlement that is a component of the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland. It is situated between the hamlet of Haggerston to the south and the parish of Mordrington to the north on the banks of the River Tweed. Contrary to Berwick, the town has historically always been a part of England. It is well known for its yearly ritual, where Tweedmouth schools choose a "Salmon Queen" to inaugurate "Salmon Week," a custom that extends all the way back to 1292. The community is located in close proximity to a multitude of beaches, historic sites, and the Scottish border, which is only a short distance to the north. The Riverside Cafe, Lee Garden, The Thatch, and The Angel Inn are some of the dining establishments in the village of Tweedmouth. Visitors can fill up on necessities at the Tesco Superstore or the M&S Simply Food food hall. Visit the historic grounds of the Berwick Lighthouse, the Berwick-upon-Tweed Castle and Ramparts, the Town Hall, and the magnificent Royal Border Bridge in the neighbouring town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Those who want to brush up on their local history can do so at the King's Own Scottish Borderers Regimental Museum and the Berwick Museum and Art Gallery.

It’s well appointed, and the big windows make the most of the view.

It was warm, clean, loads of sociable space and helpful owners. Also there is a wonderful bath, fantastic showers, and we saw an otter and loads of interesting birds. Highly recommend this place. Only thing we could think of to improve it is some more chopping boards :) Thank you again.

On arrival we had a lovely welcome pack with refreshments and local honey and jams which we all enjoyed. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept very well. The patio area is great if you get good weather it would be nice to sit out in the summer for a barbeque, we just settled for a cup of tea!. There are some binoculars which were very useful to look at the birds feeding on the river, we were not lucky enough to see a seal or otter but maybe next time. We will come back again to this lovely house with the family in the future
