About this property

Cornhill-on-Tweed 3.8 miles. Honeysuckle Cottage, a characterful historic retreat, sits in the heart of Crookham, a picturesque village near Cornhill-On-Tweed in Northumberland. Ideal for families, friends, and dog-lovers, this single-storey escape offers easy access to local heritage sites and scenic walks, with the added convenience of being close to the road for spontaneous border-hopping adventures. Step through the rustic brick façade into a bright hallway, where the charm of the building’s past is immediately felt. Original beams hint at the cottage’s heritage, while the thoughtful layout invites you to settle in with ease. The kitchen-diner is a welcoming hub, bathed in natural light from doors that open onto the garden. Dinner might be simmering on the hob while you relax in the armchair or sofa nearby, chatting over plans for the next day. You might find a basket of fresh eggs waiting near the kitchen, perfect for baking a cake, whisking up an omelette, or simply enjoying the rhythm of cooking to your favourite playlist. In the sitting room, a plush green corner sofa invites you to stretch out and unwind, framed by a feature fireplace and exposed beams. Artwork on the walls adds warmth and personality, complementing the relaxed atmosphere. Two king-size bedrooms offer a peaceful retreat, each with soft textiles and furnishings in harmonious tones. One room features a sofa beneath a piece of artwork, creating a quiet nook for reading or reflection. The wet room, with its walk-in shower, provides a spacious and refreshing start to the day, especially after muddy boots and wagging tails return from nearby trails. Outside, the manicured garden bursts with colour, from blooming flowers to neatly trimmed borders. Sip your morning coffee on the gravelled patio as birdsong drifts in, or dine alfresco on the lawn while the sun dips behind the trees. The enclosed space is perfect for dogs to roam safely, and for guests to soak in the tranquillity of this rural haven. The garden’s beauty is a testament to the owner's care and attention, adding a personal touch to your stay. With the main road nearby, exploring the surrounding area is effortless, whether you're chasing castles, coastlines, or countryside trails. However you choose to spend your time in Northumberland, Honeysuckle Cottage is sure to provide a welcoming base for your return. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1115698, 1126659, 1115701, 1115700, 1115702, and 1115705, together sleeping up to 24 guests.

Home to the famous Coldstream Guards, the pretty borders town of Coldstream sits on the northern bank of the River Tweed, and was once a rival to Gretna Green for runaway marriages. There is a museum dedicated to the Guards, a good selection of shops and pubs, or visitors can try their hand at a variety of activities, including cycling, fishing, golf, riding or walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. The picturesque seat of The Earls of Hume, including former Conservative Prime Minister Alec Douglas-Home, is The Hirsel, an estate to the west of the town with a fine mansion in beautiful grounds through which flow the Leet Waters, famous for a wide range of birds which nest there. With the Scottish borders and North Northumberland easily accessible, this is a fantastic base from which to make the most of the region.

As with any new-build there are some areas that only time and honest feedback will perfect, for example there is no shaver socket in the bathroom and the inventory is currently relatively minimal, however the owner's responsiveness to our request for a mop and hairdryer was exemplary and cleanliness was good on arrival. It is indisputable that the front bedroom is directly on the main road, and some may be disturbed by the associated traffic, fortunately we only used the room as additional wardrobe space! Whilst we were staying there were no issues streaming the to the smart TV and web-surfing but otherwise mobile telephone coverage is poor in the area. All in all, a very pleasant week in stunning countryside boosted by glorious autumn weather. Feeding back to Sykes Cottages in general; can we please ask that all property owners provide the EXACT grid reference of the property in the directions (OSGB or W3W) and that the pre-booking property description includes a detailed accessibility statement and fire risk assessment. Personally, I look for assistance rails in wet-rooms, appropriate fire / CO detectors, suitable escape lighting and exits that can be easily opened in an emergency.

We have had a wonderful holiday, the location is perfect for exploring . A fabulous location if you have children in castles. We particularly enjoyed visiting the villages of Ford and Etal , where there are some beautiful little independent craft shops selling handmade treasures. The people of the border towns are very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble .
