Private parking for 2 cars; additional on road parking for 1 car.. Skal is a deceptively spacious two storey property in the heart of the traditional coastal village of Beadnell. The large lounge enjoys a bright and airy ambience courtesy of full height glass doors which lead to a cosy sun room overlooking the rear patio garden. There is a separate dining room which leads to a very well equipped contemporary kitchen which houses many modern appliances. Access to the sun room is also from the kitchen and overlooks the rear patio garden. A freshly appointed bathroom, with shower over is also on the ground floor. There are three double bedrooms on the first floor, the master having a glass door which leads to a small and fully enclosed roof terrace where views towards the sea can be enjoyed. The master also has the added convenience of en-suite shower facilities. The second bedroom overlooks the front whilst the third bedroom looks out over the rear garden.
Beadnell is a popular holiday destination and offers local facilities including a village shop and family friendly pubs serving good food all within a gentle stroll from Skal (which is Norwegian for ‘Cheers!’). A small sandy bay speckled with rocky outcrops is close by and leads to a long sandy beach that stretches to Seahouses, two miles north. The wide expanse of golden sandy beach at Beadnell Bay is renowned for is a mere 20 minutes walk: a popular destination for watersports enthusiasts, including sailing, sea kayaking, wind surfing and scuba diving. Beadnell Bay can truly be described as the jewel in Northumberland’s seaside crown; idyllic for a romantic barefoot stroll in the sand to listen to the waves lap against the shoreline and inhale the invigorating sea air. Two miles up the coastline is the traditional fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony depart regularly from its harbour. Here there are several charming tea rooms, quaint pubs and shops with horse riding; fishing and golf on the links close by being only a sample of the many amenities available in this popular location. A further three miles up the coastline is the picturesque village of Bamburgh, which lies snuggled in the shadow of its majestic fortress and commands the power and presence of the seasoned television set it regularly becomes. Holy Island, the birthplace of Christianity and site of Lindisfarne Castle, can be seen from the unspoilt golden, sandy beach. Just a few miles inland is the bustling market town of Alnwick, with its own dramatic castle (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy!). Visitors will enjoy a trip to Alnwick Garden, a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden including the Grand Cascade waterfall and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe!

Skal was a very comfortable, warm, well equipped holiday home in a perfect location. 5-10 mins walk to small local shop (milk, bread, meat, etc plus gifts) and fabulous beaches for dog walks. Great pubs 5 mins walk.Skal was great for dogs with convenient garage/utility area for wet paws, drying rack, sink, without walking through house first.We would choose to stay here again.P.s. only two of us (master bedroom and en suite excellent) May be tight with 6 adults. Second bathroom downstairs. Great for a family with children.

After reading a poor review the week before our visit I was understandably concerned. I was however reassured that the owner had been made aware and that everything would be fine for our arrival. It wasn’t fine, far from it. The house was dirty, dusty and smelt dank and fusty with a badly stained mattress protector.I’d taken a small selection of cleaning products just in case and I’m glad I did as apart from a teaspoon of washing up liquid, 2 half toilets rolls and 6 sheets of kitchen roll, there was nothing. I bought air freshener, fabric spray and plug in to add to what I’d taken.Before I started I took lots of photos to illustrate the state of the place and then rang the booking company who agreed to contact the owner. A cleaner turned up on our third day and made the place cleaner and tidier and an improvement on what we arrived to. The smell was masked by a smell of bleach however unfortunately within a day is was back again A lot to do to bring the place up to scratch from chipped paintwork to dirty skirting boards and around window frames which I appreciate is a much longer job than the weekly clean If you’re travelling with a dog it may be worth noting that there is nograss in either the front or back garden and no pavements on the road where the cottage is situated which didn’t make the early and late walks easy The roof terrace which I was so looking forward to was a huge disappointment- the floor and patio door were dirty and the handbook advises not to put chairs on it or walk out in heels due to weight constraints. There is no view however as you’re looking straight into the house behind you and they have a direct view into your bedroom. The bedroom curtains were left closed all week. Go prepared with all the household cleaning essential The previous review worried me and justifiably so given the poor state of the property and I was very disappointed that the owner having been made aware chose to do nothing about it Hugely disappointed is an understatement
