Bridge Cottage in Haltwhistle offers a quaint and cosy stay with friendly local amenities. Despite some concerns over damp and maintenance, guests have enjoyed the property's location for walking and exploring Hadrian's Wall. The garden and patio are appreciated for relaxation, and some guests have had memorable stays, highlighting the property's potential.
Several reviews mention issues with damp, mould, and a general need for a deep clean. Complaints of cobwebs, dead flies, and dust suggest that cleanliness is below expectations for some guests.
The cottage's proximity to Hadrian's Wall and local amenities is praised, with easy access to walking routes and the town. However, some guests noted noise from a nearby road and builders yard.
Guests have found the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, but issues with a broken fire, inadequate shower, and a damp smell have affected the overall comfort for some.
While the cottage is considered well-equipped by some, there are numerous reports of maintenance issues such as a non-functional shower, broken appliances, and the need for refurbishment.
Guests have mentioned thoughtful touches like a bottle of wine and chocolates upon arrival. However, as these gifts are not consistently reported, they should be considered a pleasant surprise rather than an expectation.
A cosy 19th century end-terrace cottage, set in a rural position on the outskirts of the popular market town of Haltwhistle. Refurbished and decorated to a high standard, the property offers comfortable and well-equipped accommodation, including a fully-fitted kitchen, sitting room with dining area, and a pretty, walled patio garden - perfect for eating alfresco. The surroundings are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the heart of Hadrian's Wall Country, and provide excellent walking and fishing (there is fishing on the North Tyne 2 minutes from the property). The cottage is also located on the spectacular burn gorge walk, which leads to Hadrian's Wall. With the amenities of Haltwhistle close by, as well as access to attractions such as Alnwick Castle and the Heritage Coast, this makes a truly great base for a family holiday. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 6796 and Ref. 10490 to accommodate 12.
The small market town of Haltwhistle is a vibrant place, offering a wide range of shops and other amenities. Home to The Black Bull â a proper, old fashioned pub, serving quality food and real ale â the village is a welcoming place to return to following a day of walking, pony trekking or cycling. With the Pennine Way and other great cycle routes and Bridleways running nearby, it's easy to enjoy this stunning scenery, which boasts dramatic castles, surging rivers and beautiful forests. Those interested in the country's history are sure to enjoy a visit to one of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall, only a mile north of the village, and with an ongoing dig on the site of Vindolanda, it's easy to get in touch with the nation's past. If history isn't your cup of tea, then there is a regular train and bus service in to Newcastle and Carlisle, meaning that you can leave your car behind and enjoy the nightlife the big cities have to offer.
