Hollie Cottage is praised for its excellent location near Hadrian’s Wall and the charming town of Haltwhistle, making it a great base for walkers and families, especially those with dogs. Guests appreciate the cosy atmosphere, garden, and parking. While many found the cottage comfortable and well-equipped, several noted that it would benefit from a deep clean, updated furnishings, and some maintenance. The lack of WiFi is mentioned, though some saw this as a positive. Overall, the cottage offers good value and a warm welcome, with the beautiful surroundings being a particular highlight.
Reviews are mixed, with some guests finding the cottage spotlessly clean, while others reported issues such as dust, cobwebs, stained carpets, and a need for a deep clean. The overall impression is that cleanliness is inconsistent and could be improved.
The location is consistently praised, with guests loving the proximity to Hadrian’s Wall, local walks, the burn, and Haltwhistle’s amenities. Public transport links and access to the countryside are highlighted as major positives.
Many guests found the cottage cosy, warm, and comfortable, but there are repeated mentions of uncomfortable or worn furniture, small bathroom facilities, and issues with beds and bedding. Comfort levels appear to vary depending on expectations and needs.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a functional kitchen and good hot water, but several reviews mention maintenance issues such as a difficult oven, leaking taps, and tired furnishings. The garden and parking are appreciated, but some facilities need updating.
Some guests received thoughtful touches such as wine, chocolates, or a G&T on arrival, and found the hosts helpful and welcoming. However, these gestures are not guaranteed for all guests. Information provision and attention to detail could be improved.

Kitchen could do with some tlc and it was impossible to stop water going all over the floor while using the shower. Everyone very helpful and friendly. Excellent location and loads of local information. Very happy stay.

Lots of beautiful walks right from the door, we did the wonderful Haltwhistle Burn walk up to Hadrian's Wall and caught the local bus up to the Sill/ Twice Brewed so as a base it's perfect. The cottage was warm, kitchen and bathroom were clean, bedrooms really comfy. Alan was great, the best kind of host, there if needed.

Plenty of room in the master bedroom for a travel cot and dog bed as we had both. Walking distance to town centre with shops and pubs and short drive/long walk to Hadrians Wall. Drive a bit tight to get in and out of but easier parking just up the lane and if you have a dog that wants to escape beware of the gap between the hedge and gate but can be blocked off with a wheelie bin. Little bit of mould in a couple of rooms and kitchen tap leaks if you arenât very delicate with it when turning but very minor faults with otherwise great place. Haltwhistle is a lovely wee town but unfortunately seems to have a problem with people not picking up after their dogs (the week we were staying at least), the only drawback to a great place to visit or stay. Overall a great cottage in a nice town and wider area- would definitely stay again, considering coming back in spring/summer to enjoy the longer daylight hours in the area. Thank you.
