Guests say

Englewood Cottage is a charming and cosy property, praised for its peacefulness, beautiful surroundings, and characterful decor. Guests enjoyed the local wildlife, scenic walks from the doorstep, and the cottage's well-equipped kitchen. The comfortable beds and friendly neighbours added to the pleasant experience, although some noted the location's remoteness and limited amenities.

The cottage is generally described as clean and well-kept, with guests appreciating the tidy interior and well-stocked amenities. There are no significant complaints about cleanliness, indicating a high standard maintained by the owners.

The location is appreciated for its tranquility and proximity to nature, with easy access to walks and wildlife. However, some guests found the remoteness less convenient for accessing local services and amenities, which affects the score slightly.

Guests found the cottage to be comfortable, with cosy seating, a warm atmosphere, and comfy beds. Some minor issues with mattresses and heating were mentioned, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

While the cottage is praised for its well-equipped kitchen and cosy features, there are mixed comments about maintenance and the availability of modern conveniences like internet and shower facilities. Due to the lack of consistent information on maintenance, a score cannot be accurately provided.

Guests have not mentioned any specific gifts or thoughtful gestures that would indicate a consistent level of thoughtfulness by the hosts. Therefore, while the property is well-received, there is insufficient information to score this category.

About this property

A charming, stone-built, terraced cottage situated in a wonderful position just outside the village of Allenheads. The cottage dates back to 1854 and much of the original charm and character has been retained. The spacious accommodation is very well equipped and furnished. The cottage is surrounded by spectacular moorland and boasts a garden which runs down to a small stream. The garden is accessible to the rear of the property, where there is a shared pathway running between the property and the private garden.

Situated in the heart of the North Pennines, in beautiful Allendale, the village of Allenheads is reputed to be the highest village in England and stands over one thousand, four hundred feet above sea level. Once an important lead-mining area the village now hosts an interesting display of former life in the settlement in the Allenheads Heritage Centre. Surrounded by beautiful heather-clad moorland, the area is well known amongst walkers, nature lovers and bird watchers. In addition to the town's own heritage centre, the Beamish Open Air Museum is nearby – showing a recreation of a mining community. Other attractions within easy driving distance include the fascinating city of Durham, Hadrian's Wall and the attractive market towns of Allendale, Alston and Hexham. With so much to see and do, one visit isn't likely to be enough!

Wood was supplied for the fire however they asked you not to use wood ??? The house was very cold when we arrived. It took 4 days to get it warm, totally get it was storage heating but leaving windows open during a very cold period, we had snow and ice.

The cottage was beautiful and very cosy. The property was very dog friendly with an enclosed garden. The Lion House in Allendale is really good for a Sunday dinner. Would definitely recommend for a peaceful trip away, nice villages close by and Hexham is also close. The cottage has good facilities for cooking and it was really nice to have a working fire.

The cottage itself was a beautiful Property and has been Lovingly preserved by its owners whom we read it has been in the family for generations, The surroundings are also a delight and a bonus for dog owners and Walkers, Unfortunately we did not experience a quiet and relaxing stay whatsoever due to the adjoining neighbour having obviously ongoing building works done, this caused noise from Monday to the Friday, and terrible dust in the kitchen if we dared to open the door, this same neighbour has two dogs, one is constantly barking you can hear it though the walls day and night, and it's ready and waiting for you to dare open the back door, we tried to creep out many times with no luck Bearing in mind the building works going on the property shouldn't have been let out at the current time , Also it's worth noting that the property on the left side of the cottage is derelict, so not the desired kerb appeal we expected what with building bags and vans on the other side We have brought these matters to the attention of sykes and because the building work wasn't being undertaken in the property that we rented they where pretty unhelpful, The owner should be fully aware of these issues, as we did not on any level enjoy the peaceful holiday that we paid for
