We had a lovely week at Fern Cottage. It’s pretty well equipped and found the only thing missing was a washing up sponge! The log burner is gorgeous and much needed on chilly mornings and evenings. We felt very cosy! The outside is something from a picture postcard and we loved the generous touch of yummy treats left for us. It’s a cosy environment in beautiful surroundings and it’s evident that the host has taken care with lots of special touches in the cottage. The shower is a little dribbly with not much pressure on the eco setting which is the only setting where the temperature is bearable. The wobbly bed and thin mattress could do with an update too. We did very much enjoy our stay with easy access to Hadrian’s Wall and Allen Banks. There’s a delightful pub that is very reasonably priced in Bardon Mill and there’s easy access to Hexham for shopping. We would definitely recommend Fern Cottage and thank the host for an enjoyable week. We were sad to leave!

We stayed at Fern Cottage earlier this month and had the most peaceful and relaxing holiday. The cottage is comfortable, homely and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Set at the end of a quiet country lane and with no light pollution, it was an ideal place to stargaze. I'd heard Northumberland called the dark sky county and now understand why. Never having seen so many bright stars before, it really was something to see to be believed. It's ideally placed for long walks down country lanes and also for visiting nearby historical Roman sites and Hadrians wall. Fairly close to Hexham for shopping trips and also not too far from Alnwick castle, Bamburgh castle and the coast. A great place to relax and unwind even on the odd rainy day snuggled by the log burner. We will definitely visit again soon.
