Boasting close by amenities and attractions, this property is ideal for a small family or couple seeking a romantic getaway to Northumberland. Be welcomed into a light and airy open-plan living space, offering a stylish sitting area for you to recline in with a coffee as you plan the day ahead of you. When mealtimes call, rustle up a storm in the contemporary kitchen, before enjoying a meal for two at the dining table. As the evening wears on, cosy up in the double bedroom after taking a refreshing shower. Outside, make the most of the patio space, swinging on the hammock or gathering round the fire pit as you gaze up at the Northumberland dark skies - you might even spot the northern lights! Humshaugh is a delightful village settled into the countryside of Northumberland, offering a local convenience store for all of your holiday essentials, that's if you're not snacking on the local honey, eggs and jam from the garden, along with a pub, The Crown Inn. Close by at Chollerford you will discover riverside walks beside the River North Tyne, The Riverside Kitchen eatery, and Chesters Roman Fort and Museum. Literally a moment’s stroll away lies Hadrian's Wall, ideal for those history lovers, whilst there are several excellent eateries nearby, including two Michelin starred restaurants. Further from the property there are more amenities and attractions such as the town of Hexham, where there are independent stores to browse, eateries, pubs, the impressive ruins of Hexham Abbey, and from here, visit Corbridge Roman Museum. The property is within reach of Kielder Forest, the Northumberland National Park, and the North Pennines AONB, where there are many walks, mountain biking trails, and birdwatching opportunities. Walks include those at Hareshaw Linn Waterfall, Gateley Hill Trig Point, Hareshaw Iron Works Trail, and Pow Hill Country Park, so there’s plenty of options. All of this and so much more with a romantic stay at Ravenside.

Humshaugh is an historic Northumberland village, 6 miles from the region’s main market town of Hexham - a bustling town with a fine Saxon crypt, shops and restaurants. A short drive will take you to pretty Corbridge, which dates back to Roman times and has pubs, specialist shops, and a 12th century bridge spanning the River Tyne. A day exploring the many delights of Hadrian’s Wall shouldn’t be missed and a little further afield will take you to the Heritage Coastline, as well as the castles of Alnwick, Warkworth, Dunstunburgh and Bamburgh. For those who prefer staying closer to home, Humshaugh has a great pub serving quality food and real ales, an award-winning shop and weekly visits from a fish and chip van! Walks and cycle routes from the doorstep will take you through the Tyne Valley, and this is a perfect location for all that Northumberland has to offer.

The property is down a pretty little road and looks out across fields. It is very spacious, beautifully decorated and we loved cooking a meal there on our first night, having everything we needed. Tom was a very kind host giving us lots of ideas for things to do in the local area and we were able to buy some of his homemade delicious jam and honey for our breakfasts. We wanted to walk part of Hadrian’s wall so went the 11 miles to Sycamore Gap and finished at The Twice Brewed Inn before getting a taxi back as buses weren’t running until March. The walk was so satisfying and the scenery was stunning! For a shorter walk we loved heading down to the castle by the river in the village. We had a great meal at the Crown Inn, 5 minutes walk away on our second night and Corbridge was a gorgeous village to pop for a coffee and has a great cake shop. We only wished we could stay longer so will be returning to do some of the other lovely things that Tom suggested. Thanks to his charming daughter for her ideas too!
