It serves as an excellent base for exploring Northumberland, with easy access to walks and local amenities. The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to local amenities, and as a starting point for walks and exploring the area. The steep access is mentioned, but it does not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback.

This was our second stay at Cairn Rigg and we are back again in August, which I think says it all!! A small, comfortable, cosy and clean cottage in an ideal location to explore Northumberland. Rothbury is a 10 minute walk down hill but beware it's a steep walk back up!! Our dog loves the garden and towels are provided for a muddy dog, who can be cleaned in the porch area. Met the owners on this visit and they are welcoming as is Louisa, who looks after the cottage. On our last visit she was amazing when we needed help with something. Definitely recommend for a quiet and relaxed break.

We used to live two houses up from Cairn Rigg,so we already knew it was a good holiday cottage. The bathroom has been very well refurbished and the cottage has great views from the living room window. We stayed here over Christmas and New Year, to visit friends and family, so didn’t actually visit any of the many nearby tourist attractions. Rothbury is still the great, friendly place we remember. Cairn Rigg is very well equipped, warm, and exceptionally clean. The welcome pack we received was the best we’ve ever had,and was substantial. Cairn Rigg was always occupied, when we lived in the lane, with many people returning each year. Having stayed here for two weeks ourselves,it’s quite clear why visitors return.
