Matfen Lodge in Northumberland offers a tranquil retreat with beautiful surroundings. Guests appreciate the lodge's cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and the peaceful location. While some guests mention issues with maintenance and a lack of modern comforts, the charm of the area and the property's potential shine through. The proximity to local pubs and the countryside appeal to many visitors.
Reviews on cleanliness are mixed, with several guests finding the lodge tidy and others noting it could benefit from a deeper clean. Cobwebs, dust, and dead insects were mentioned, suggesting room for improvement.
The location is generally praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local amenities and pubs. However, some guests felt the need to drive to access walking trails, slightly impacting the score.
Comfort receives a moderate score due to mixed feedback. While some guests found the lodge cosy and the beds clean, others reported uncomfortable furniture and issues with the showers and seating arrangements.
Facilities and maintenance issues are a concern, with reports of inadequate kitchenware, electrical problems, and a lack of WiFi. Positive notes on the lodge's warmth and space partially offset these concerns.
There is insufficient information to score thoughtfulness accurately. While some guests mentioned a welcome pack, it is not clear if this is a consistent offering, and as such, it cannot be guaranteed.

The lack of WiFi meant we could reconnect and do things IRL. The lodge is spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming, perfect for a quiet base to get out exploring the local area. The host Mandy was brilliant. The welcome pack was nice and we had everything and more required for a wonderful stay. Weâre already planning and booking our next trip
Gillian
Comfy beds, and very quiet.

Not that there was a proper road. The lodge was ok. The interior looked nothing like the pictures on Sykes website. A lot of dust round the windows and air vents in the bathrooms. The welcome biscuits, milk and wine were a nice touch. Sadly the site feels very run down and unloved
