About this property

Whalton 9 miles. Located rurally in Longwitton near Whalton, Northumberland is The Byre, a delightful, two-bedroom barn conversion. Enjoying far-reaching countryside views, an enclosed garden, and a contemporary interior, The Byre offers the ideal base for a family escape, resting between both the shoreline and Northumberland National Park. Travel through the working farm to meet three off-road parking spaces. Head towards the stone-fronted exterior of The Byre, firstly reaching the handy utility room, complete with space to kick off your boots and hang up your coats. Continue through to the open-plan living space, adorned with A-frame beamed ceilings, a light-flooded feel, plush seating, a lovely woodburning stove, a dining table for four, and a fully-equipped kitchen; use this space to prepare meals, dine, socialise and unwind after a day of exploration. If you'd prefer an alfresco affair, the garden is fully enclosed and private, where you can set the outdoor table and enjoy mealtimes as the sun sets over the surrounding fields. Catch some rest in one of two bedrooms on offer, including a well-appointed double, and a delightful twin with access to the garden; both are complete with homely accessories and plush bedding, and are serviced by the spacious bathroom. Awaken to an itinerary brimming with exploration, starting off with discovering the pretty grounds of Bolam Lake Country Park, or heading to Belsay Hall Quarry Garden, where you can also tour the interior of the hall, steep in history and beauty; Shortflatt Tower is also nearby, a popular wedding venue, making The Byre a perfect base for guests. Continue into Morpeth for further attractions, including the Morpeth Chantry Museum, practise your swing at the Morpeth Golf Club, or discover Northumberland Zoo, a firm family favourite. Round off your break with a day of hiking, traversing through the open countryside to reach Northumberlandia, or head into the national park, whilst the coastline and many golden beaches are within driving distance. Experience all of this at The Byre.

Whalton is situated in Northumberland, halfway between Belsay and Morpeth. Whalton is the perfect starting point for a trip of the North East, situated between the shore and the countryside, and the Northumberland National Park is only a short drive away. A post office and The Beresford Arms tavern and restaurant are located in the village proper, however more services can be found in the thriving town of Morpeth. Visit the Belsay Hall, Castle, and Gardens for attractions, or find Kirkley and the Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens. When you are in town, schedule time to go to the Carlisle Park grounds, play a round of golf at the Morpeth Golf Club, or visit the Morpeth Chantry Museum. Go to South Shields for a day at the beach filled with coastal attractions or explore the national park on foot or by bike for a more rural setting.

Far enough out of the way for a peaceful holiday, yet close to loads of National Trust/English Heritage sites and only 30 mins to the beach. Fantastic for dogs as the garden is secure and loads of space for them to run around. Loved the eggs, bacon and milk as a welcome from the owners.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful. It's perfectly placed to visit all over Northumberland. I definitely would like to go there again. A really happy holiday for us and our dogs.
