Wayside Cottage is praised for its cleanliness, spaciousness, and well-equipped nature, offering a comfortable stay with a lovely garden and proximity to beaches and local attractions. While some minor maintenance issues and dated decor are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests planning return visits.
The majority of guests found the cottage to be spotlessly clean, with only a few isolated incidents of cleanliness issues which seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to beaches, nature reserves, and local pubs, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.
Guests generally found the cottage comfortable, with a warm, homely feel and a garden that adds to the relaxation, although some noted the decor is a bit dated.
The cottage is well-equipped, but some guests mentioned minor maintenance issues and a lack of certain basics. There is no mention of a tumble dryer, which could be a drawback for some.

Resting in the picturesque village of High Newton near Newton-by-the-Sea in Northumberland, Wayside Cottage is a traditional cottage ideal for a family holiday. The property is rustic in style and offers guests a warm welcome with a charming sitting room complete with woodburning stove, creating a suitably inviting ambience. The country kitchen is fully fitted with an excellent range of facilities, so you can create delicious food for the whole family and when it’s ready to serve, step into the elegant dining table where a rustic table awaits. This room is delightfully appealing with a feature fireplace and traditional wood adding up to make the room feel really warming and is somewhere you can imagine spending many happy hours tucking into hearty meals together. The gardens are a particular feature at Wayside Cottage with plenty of room for the children (and any pets!) to explore, while the adults can pull up a chair on the terrace, sit back and relax, knowing the children are safe; this is what holidays are made of. When it’s time for bed, guests can choose from two doubles and a single, or cool bunk beds for the children. All are presented in a traditional style and offer a calming place to rest your weary heads. Wayside Cottage is in the perfect location for getting out and about exploring with the pretty village of High Newton on the doorstep which has an excellent pub and some great walks as well as a beautiful sandy beach just a few minutes’ walk away. Nearby Newton-by-the-Sea is just as attractive and well worth a visit with the popular fishing villages of Beadnell and Craster just a few miles away too. Head out for a hike along any of the coastal paths in the area and you can’t fail to be impressed by the stunning sea views along the way. Attractions worth a visit include Dunstanburgh Castle, Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and RSPB reserves at Hauxley and Annstead. If you’re looking for a cottage stay in the heart of a picture-postcard village then make sure to book a holiday at Wayside Cottage.
The small coastal village of Newton is situated on Northumberland's Heritage Coastline between the popular fishing villages of Craster, famous for its kippers, and Beadnell.
