About this property

Stay here if you want to experience: panoramic views, glorious sunsets/sunrises, perfect views of the stars, wildlife, walking, and peace and quiet in an isolated location but with a pub 5 minutes drive away! Petty Knowes Cottage is a charming, single-storey, stone property set amongst rolling hills a short walk from the small village of Rochester in the heart of the Northumberland National Park dark zone.

The property has been renovated to a high standard, whilst care has been taken to retain many original features to add a wealth of character. Petty Knowes Cottage is an excellent choice for relaxing in comfort with touches of luxury, at any time of the year.

Enter into the stylish sitting room which is designed with comfort in mind. Leather sofas with throws and cushions provide ample seating with a porters chair for those who prefer their own space! The lighting can be ambient or set according to your mood with a dimmer facility on the main light and a selection of lamps and candles. You can curl up on the sofas and relax in front of the open fire, play cards/games on the games table, (a selection is available for your use) and there is a 42" TV, DVD player and a large selection of DVD’s.

Walk through to the open-plan fully equipped kitchen/diner, where you will find all the necessary appliances for rustling up some delicious meals. There is also a washer/dryer, so you don't have to bring your whole wardrobe with you during your stay.

The luxury bathroom provides a bath and over shower, with Egyptian cotton towels and sumptuous underfloor heating.

Once the evening draws to a close, retire to the super king-size bedroom which has its own woodburning stove and a wall mounted TV so you don't have to move to watch your favourite morning shows whilst relaxing in the soft Egyptian cotton bedding.

There is a secret snug (behind the mirror) with stone walls and a day bed, perfect for curling up and reading a book.

To the front of the cottage, there is a private decking area which comes with outdoor furniture, meaning you can dine alfresco or simply enjoy a refreshing drink as the sun sets.

Guests are welcome to use the owner’s hot tub during their stay, adding a spot of luxury to your romantic getaway. Plastic glasses are provided so you can enjoy a drink whilst watching the stars or enjoying the rolling countryside.

The delightful village of Otterburn, once the site of the famous 1388 victory of the Scots over the English, nestles close to the banks of the River Rede, between the hills and moors overlooking the North Tyne Valley. It offers excellent walking opportunities and is on a variety of popular routes for cyclists. Hadrian's Wall and the beautiful Kielder Forest and Waters are close by, providing fantastic fishing, horse riding and nature watching, amidst superb, tranquil countryside. Otterburn is the former home of a busy weaving industry, and the world famous Otterburn Mill marks the village's historic past. Nearby Bellingham, built predominantly from local stone and slate, houses a handful of pubs, shops and tea rooms and a highly regarded 18 hole golf course. Visit the nearby, majestic, stately homes of Wallington Hall and Cragside, or the historic market town of Alnwick, with its stunning castle and gardens, a mere 40 minute drive. Otterburn is a superb location for a relaxing holiday, any time of year.
