Croft Cottage in Wooler offers a tranquil setting with friendly locals and a real fire adding to the charm. It's an ideal base for exploring Northumbria's unspoiled landscapes, with walks and wildlife on the doorstep. While most guests found the cottage comfortable and well-situated, one report of poor cleanliness suggests variability in standards.
Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. While no specific complaints were mentioned in most reviews, one detailed negative experience significantly impacts the score, citing issues with mould and unclean kitchen appliances.
The location is consistently praised for its quietness, natural beauty, and proximity to local walks and the village of Wooler. The presence of wildlife and domestic animals adds to the charm of the rural setting.
Guests generally found the cottage comfortable, with a real fire and a good base for exploration. However, one review mentioned discomfort due to noisy chickens and concerns about letting their dog out, slightly lowering the score.
Facilities like bike storage and a cooperative store nearby are appreciated. However, the report of poorly maintained kitchen appliances and a mouldy washing machine suggests some facilities may need better upkeep.
There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.

We climbed the nearby Yeavering Bell and my dog enjoyed evening walks in the nearby wood and down the nearby lane to a stream where he could have a paddle. My Grandchildren loved playing on the grassed area in front of the cottage. The Co-Op in Wooler was excellent. I felt very relaxed in the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

On arrival we found a note had been left stating that the water supply was from a spring and to boil all drinking water and/or purchase bottled water. The fridge was full of black mould, there was water running down the interior and the salad crisper was half full of water. The cooker controls were greasy, the ceramic hob wasnât clean, the inside of the glass door was covered in grease as were the metal racks and baking sheet. The washing machine had a âjellyâ of mould on the door seal. And the bath wasnât clean. Extremely disappointed to lose our holiday.

In spite of the weather, we found it a great centre for exploring the coast and also the borders. The chickens provided a somewhat noisy backdrop - and we felt inhibited by them in letting our dog out. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable.
