This charming property, converted 20 years ago, sits on a family farm that has been lovingly tended by four generations for over 120 years.

As you step inside, you are greeted by a large open-plan kitchen and dining area, where a generous dining table sits at the heart of the space, perfect for gathering family and friends for meals. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped, catering to all your culinary needs. Adjacent to the kitchen, the cosy lounge invites you to relax on two comfortable sofas around a multi-fuel stove, with a large TV for entertainment. Local artwork adorns the walls, adding a touch of the area’s culture and heritage. The Barn features three well-appointed bedrooms. The first double bedroom, just a step down from the lounge, is a bright and welcoming space with windows on every side offering views of the private enclosed garden. Glass doors lead directly from the bedroom onto a patio with outdoor seating, perfect for soaking up the sunshine. The hallway leads to two additional bedrooms: a large king bedroom with a step-up to an en suite walk-in shower, and a twin bedroom. The property is complete with a spacious family bathroom.
Ideally located for exploring the region, The Barn is just 4 miles north of Durham City, with its renowned Cathedral and castle, and 6 miles from the fascinating Beamish Open Air Museum. To the east, you’ll find miles of beautiful beaches. Stoneygate Farm offers horse riding facilities and private woodland trails, and by prior arrangement, you can bring your horse to stay in the stables for an additional cost. With seven golf courses within a 30-minute drive and a wealth of nearby attractions, there’s something here for everyone.

Wendy was a wonderful host. She was kind, thoughtful and friendly. She checked if we needed anything before we travelled. She met us when we arrived and took us round the house showing us how to work the heating, where the instructions were for appliances, and what facilities there were. The Barn had everything you could posibly need and more. It felt like a home from home. Clean, tidy, warm and cosy. Wendy has thought of everything to make your experience of staying there easy, enjoyable and relaxing. I couldnt have asked for anything more. I will definitely stay there again.

Lovely warm cottage with everything we needed thanks to Wendy Greenshields who looked after us so well. We didn’t have a car but there is an excellent friendly, local taxi company who took us everywhere.The Ramside Hall is a big hotel nearby with a great Spa and golf courses.We love the glass museum in Sunderland and wandering around Durham is the most lovely experience - the Cathedral magnificent.

Wendy gave us a very warm welcome to her very cosy and comfortable barn conversion. She thought of everything and went above and beyond for us providing all the things that are really useful to have on holiday. The Barn is well located for loads of brilliant activities, too many for a weekend so we hope to visit again soon. Highly recommend The Barn.
