Canonbie 3.6 miles. A charming detached cottage nestling alongside the Liddle River, between Newcastleton and Canonbie, and close to the border with England. All ground floor, this riverside cottage is ideal for a quiet break in a tranquil setting, surrounded by beautiful Borders scenery. There’s a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a twin room, a shower room and a spacious open plan living area with an exposed beam and a cosy open fire. The hallway also has a snug seating area with French doors accessing the garden. To the front is a large garden with furniture, from where open views across the river will be enjoyed. Over a fence and across a field and you’re at the river’s edge with a small beach and superb fishing available on the Buccleuch Estate. With nothing outside but open fields and the trickle of the river running past, this is an ideal country cottage to spend time fishing, walking, painting or reading, and with various festivals including the Newcastleton Music Festival and the Langholm Walking Festival, along with the Buccleuch Centre theatre in Langholm, there’s so much to keep you entertained. Visit the Bridge Inn, just over 2 miles away and across the border, for a drink and bar meals or one of the hotels and bars in nearby Canonbie and Newcastleton. A charming, traditional country cottage and the perfect place to unwind.
The historic village of Canonbie lies just over the border into Scotland, close to the town of Gretna.
