Venture into the Lake District, which begins 4.5 miles from the cottage. Look out for otters, osprey and deer as you stroll beside Bassenthwaite Lake, 10.5 miles from your base. Venture 18.5 miles on a day trip to Keswick, where you can shop, dine out and explore magnificent Derwentwater from the lake itself or the footpaths around it. Cockermouth, 9.5 miles from the cottage, is home to the National Trust’s Wordsworth House and Gardens.
