Billy's Cottage receives high praise for its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches like wine and milk, and find the beds particularly comfortable. The location is convenient for exploring the Western Lakes and the Cumbrian Coast. Some guests mention steep stairs and occasional maintenance issues, but overall experiences are very positive.

Cleanliness

The cottage is consistently described as very clean, with multiple reviews highlighting its spotless condition. One negative comment about an unclean smell and bed bugs is noted, but it is an outlier among the overwhelmingly positive feedback.

The well-equipped kitchen and the provision of towels and other essentials are frequently mentioned. However, some guests point out maintenance issues such as steep stairs, a bathroom door that wouldn't shut, and a need for updates in the bathroom area.

Thoughtfulness

Many guests mention and appreciate the thoughtful gestures of wine and milk provided. It is important to note that such gifts, while often present, are a courtesy and not guaranteed with every stay.

Alternatively, the garden is an ideal space for outdoor relaxation, with a patio, outdoor seating, a secure area for dogs and children. You'll also find the external utility room equipped with a washing machine and a tumble dryer, so you can keep your walking gear fresh. The first bedroom has a king-size bed and ample storage space, while the second bedroom has a double bed. If you're looking for a quiet, picturesque town close to the coast and the Lake District, look no further than Dearham; head to one of the town's two pubs, the Commercial Inn or the Sun Inn, for a pint and some traditional pub fare, and on the outskirts you'll find the Moorforge Viking Settlement! The coastal town of Maryport is a short drive away with a host of attractions including Lake District Coast Aquarium, the Senhouse Roman Museum, and Mayport Golf Course, or perhaps you'd prefer strolling along Cumbria's shoreline at Crosscanonby Nature reserve? The wild, windswept coast of Cumbria has mesmerising views across the Solway to Scotland and picturesque villages such as Allonby. You'll find plenty of walks along the Solway Firth Coast, a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife lovers, whilst plenty more adventure awaits in the Lake District National Park a short journey away from Billy's Cottage. Start in Cockermouth, a lovely market town which hosts Wordsworth House and Garden, Castlegate House Gallery, and popular restaurants such as Aspava and The Bitter End pub. For a variety of watersports such as sailing, kayaking and canoeing, be sure to visit Bassenthwaite Lake, close to the Lake District Wildlife Park and scenic hikes up Skiddaw and Grisedale Pike. A little further lies the bustling market town of Keswick where you can watch a performance at Theatre By The Lake, find plenty of activities at Keswick Museum, and discover the ancient Castlerigg Stone Circle. The Lake District is scattered with idyllic walks and waterfalls to explore, whether that's gentle strolls to Lodore Falls set in a wooded valley or breath-taking views at the top of the highest peak, Scafell Pike. Find your next Cumbrian adventure at Billy's Cottage.

Dearham lies in Allerdale, five miles from Cockermouth on the Lake District's western edge. Dearham has four pubs, including The Old Mill Inn and The Ploughman, a Post Office/village shop, a fish and chip shop, a hairdresser, a gas station, and The Cottage Pie. The terrain offers magnificent vistas of the Loweswater Valley and mountains beyond, including Grassmoor. Solway Firth's craggy shoreline is a short drive away, and the path south to Ravenglass is one of the UK's most scenic and serene. Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame), and Wordsworth's Georgian family home is a National Trust site. Cockermouth is known for its excellent scenery and walking in the northern lakes of Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water, and Derwent Water. A great UK getaway.
