Located within the close proximity of Alston in Cumbria, The Old Buttress was renovated in 2021 and is now a cosy annexe accommodation for up to two guests. The spacious kitchen and open-plan living area with a wood burning stove provides a warm welcome to cyclists and walkers on even the wettest of days. Indeed, there is a covered utility area with a separate washing machine and tumble dryer, ideal for drying off and storing muddy boots and coats upon returning from the abundant outdoor pursuits. The Old Buttress has a fabulous bedroom with a king-size bed and a balcony with seating for two, where you can take in the panoramic, far reaching views or star gaze on a clear summer's night.
Alston claims to be the highest market settlement in England, sitting 1,000 feet above sea level. The market town itself offers an abundance of shops and eateries for visitors to enjoy. The Cane Workshop at Stokoe House in the town centre is an award winning marmalade, preserves and chutney producer. Very special place! Jon, who lives in the adjoining property, was an excellent host. We really enjoyed the calmness of the area, we hiked every day and barely met someone. So nice! The cottage is super well maintained and of excellent quality. They provided the best hamper ever! Highly recommended:)
