While the village's amenities are noted as limited by one guest, the location is generally appreciated for its quietness and proximity to the Lake District, making it a great base for exploration.
Guests frequently mention the comfortable super king-sized bed and the cosy, private feel of the cottage, although one guest found the bed too hard, which is subjective.
The cottage is well-equipped with a mention of a small fridge and a desire for a TV in the kitchen. Overall, the facilities meet guests' needs, with special mention of a welcoming pub nearby.
Many reviews express gratitude for the thoughtful touches, such as welcome trays and treats for both guests and pets, although it's noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and may vary.
Appleby-in-Westmorland 3 miles. A charming single-storey cottage set in the pretty village of Long Marton, deep in the Eden Valley. Offering excellent accommodation, this well-equipped Appleby cottage is a perfect base for those wishing to enjoy comfort in village surroundings, with beautiful countryside on the doorstep. This Appleby cottage has a spacious bedroom, so you can get a great night's sleep, ideal after days spent out and about exploring the area. The cosy sitting room in this Appleby cottage has soft leather sofas perfect for relaxing, while the well-equipped kitchen with dining area is lovely for romantic meals together. Outside this Appleby cottage is a patio area and pleasant mature gardens to enjoy the summer sun on a balmy evening. The charming village of Long Marton has an 18th century inn serving food, and the Tirril Brewery is also located in the village, producing ales such as Old Faithful and Bewshers Best, so you can be sure of a good pint when you're in the area. Rail enthusiasts will be delighted that the Settle-Carlisle Railway runs through the village of Long Marton, and from the nearest station at Appleby you can travel across some of the most magnificent countryside passing through the Yorkshire Dales across the Ribblehead Viaduct to Settle, or westwards passing through Lazonby, Armathwaite and arriving into Carlisle - the 'Border City'. This is a lovely Appleby cottage, perfect at any time of the year.
The historic town of Appleby, set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley, was originally the county town of Westmorland. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and today many of the old steam trains still wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Pooley Bridge and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
