Guests say

Gilmore House is a charming and well-equipped cottage in the heart of Alston, praised for its comfortable beds, cosy log fire, and peaceful location. Guests appreciate the proximity to local amenities and scenic walks. The property is clean and tastefully decorated upstairs, though some areas downstairs are a little dated. The steep stairs and limited parking may pose challenges for some, but overall, visitors enjoy the tranquil setting and would consider returning.

Multiple guests mention the cottage is very clean and well-presented, especially upstairs. Only minor maintenance issues are noted, but overall cleanliness is consistently praised.

The cottage is centrally located in a quiet village, close to shops, pubs, and beautiful countryside walks. Some guests mention the village feels a little tired and parking is not directly outside, but the setting is generally appreciated.

Guests highlight the extremely comfortable beds and cosy living spaces, especially the log fire. The steep stairs may be difficult for some, and the lack of a downstairs loo is noted, but overall comfort is rated highly.

The kitchen is well-equipped and the property offers modern amenities, but some guests mention tired furnishings, maintenance issues (e.g., blinds, bathroom cabinet, shower), and unclear parking instructions. Facilities are good but could benefit from some updates.

There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Lovely stay here. It has a really good equipped kitchen. The beds are soooo comfortable and a beautiful log fire with logs and firelighters. Two minutes walk ro The Turks head and two minutes walk to Jack's takeaway and the Co op. Fabulous rural walks for our dog. Visited Carlisle (Fabulous for shopping) and Penrith (Tattie Tim) has lovely jacket potatoes and The Angel fish shop does a fab lunchtime special. It's our second visit to Gilmore House and will definitely be back.

Lovely little cottage with all modern amenities, two sitting rooms and two good size bedrooms. Couple of drawbacks were the lack of nearby parking and having to park on the high street, and the stairs which are incredibly steep and narrow and slightly dangerous as I found out when slipping from top to bottom
