Well - we arrived - eventually. You need to be aware there are TWO Bramptons in Cumbria - this one - outside the small town of Appleby about a five minute drive - and the larger small market town of Brampton near Carlisle. There’s a 0.5 mile rough track to get to the cottage once you’ve come through the single lane road through tiny Brampton. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped with very plump pillows and warm duvets. Cosy sofas in a generous lounge area. Lots of books, dvd’s maps and local information leaflets. The shower was not as expected - it is described as over the bath shower but it is a shower attachment to the bath taps. It worked well once I’d sorted out how to attach it facing away from the shower glass - if I didn’t the bathroom floor would’ve been flooded. Having said that there was hot water whenever we needed and a very effective thermostatic control for the central heating. It is very easy to get to Appleby with a Spar and well stocked Co-op and fish and chips on main road in were good. Penrith - we popped into Morrisons- isn’t too far either about 11 miles. Lowther Castle and gardens well worth a visit. We did manage a visit to Hadrian’s Wall and the Roman Fort there - about an hours driveWe enjoyed our holiday, relaxed watched tv, and managed to get some water- colour painting done. Ruth was very kind and helpful whenever we needed her especially when we went to “the wrong Brampton” initially.

Accommodation was great, location was as tranquil as you could get, we loved every day of our stay. Must admit that the weather was perfect which helped. The location is ideal for touring around lake district, north pennines and Yorkshire dales. Dusty old track to the property but that adds to the charm for me, we were sad to leave. Shopping facilities are OK in Appleby but much better in Penrith.
