Guests say

The Black Bull offers spacious, characterful accommodation in the heart of Appleby-in-Westmorland, making it ideal for families and groups seeking a central location with easy access to local shops, pubs, and attractions. Guests appreciate the en-suite bedrooms, well-equipped kitchen, and private parking, though some note the property is a little tired and would benefit from a deep clean and minor maintenance. Despite a few niggles, most guests enjoyed their stay and found the house comfortable and good value for money.

Cleanliness is generally acceptable, with several guests finding the property clean enough for a comfortable stay. However, multiple reviews mention areas needing a more thorough clean, including cobwebs, dust, stained carpets, and issues with plugholes. Some guests were disappointed by the standard of cleanliness, particularly in bathrooms and communal areas.

The location is highly praised, with guests loving the central position on the main street, close to shops, pubs, and local attractions. The convenience of being able to walk to amenities and enjoy the surrounding countryside is a major highlight.

Guests find the house spacious and comfortable, with cosy beds, ample room for families, and en-suite bathrooms in every bedroom. Some mention the property can be cold in winter and note uneven floors typical of a period property, but overall comfort is rated positively.

Facilities are well regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen, multiple bathrooms, and private parking. Some maintenance issues are noted, such as non-working appliances, tired furnishings, and the need for minor repairs. The property is not modern but provides all essentials for a pleasant stay.

There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Everything is on the doorstep the house is quirky, beamed alot of history we loved that, and kitchen equipment well stocked wise for a family of 6. The castle at the top of road has beautiful food, the shops 2 mins away perfect. The only other major thing is cleanliness is not there, there's dog wee stains on carpets we did not have a dog. The plug holes in attic full of hair and the mid floor bathroom flies where coming out the pipes from the in sink. Other than a good clean the house, its location, the price where all amazing.

Very very disappointed with the cottage description, and the lack of cleanliness and condition of the cottage. Never mind the the bad customer service from cottages.Com, I have called and messaged countless times about how upset we were and no one has even acknowledged our complaint. Really Really poor customer service and

As other reviews suggest this is a tired, basic property wich lacks the care and attention we are used to with Cottages.com . We stayed two weeks with 6 adults and appreciated the space and number of bathrooms but there no offer of a change of linen after week one and only a dribble of cleaning products for us to do our own cleaning. Our expectations when staying two weeks are that we are paying the equivalent of two single week stays and that fresh linen is at least offered midway through the time.More communication about basics such as sorting waste and rubbish collection days would also have been useful.Appleby is a nice little village with good pubs and several good shops for food.
