Part of the Chatsworth Estate, Gardener’s Cottage is a beautiful Grade II listed property nestled within the Chatsworth Estate, surrounded by idyllic parkland views that reach across to the village of Edensor.

Gardener’s Cottage was the only property which remained standing when the 6th Duke of Devonshire completed his landscaping improvements in the 1760s. Whilst the entire village of Edensor was moved, Gardener’s Cottage was left untouched. Although the reasoning behind this remains somewhat a mystery, it is believed that the Duke of Devonshire made this decision because the cottage was out of sight of Chatsworth House, sitting in a natural dip, and therefore did not obstruct the magnificent rural views.

Upon arriving at Gardener’s Cottage, you are welcomed by the charming Grade II listed exterior of this beautiful three bedroomed cottage. The cottage was personally refurbished by the Duchess of Devonshire and now provides a beautiful, homely retreat for friends and family to escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.

With the accommodation over two floors, Gardener’s Cottage is a spacious yet cosy cottage with everything you could need for a home-from-home retreat. The well-equipped kitchen is the perfect place to cook up a wonderful feast to enjoy together in the traditionally furnished dining room. Enjoy comfort in every corner at Gardener’s Cottage, from the sumptuous sofas, through to the bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms; this property is the perfect place to relax and unwind with friends and family and enjoy this superb Estate.

Outside, the garden wraps around the house and offers plenty of space for the children and the dogs to play. There is a patio area with ample seating and a charcoal barbecue, perfect for those long summer nights.

Gardener’s Cottage is perfectly placed for a relaxing break away.

At certain times of the year, guests have unlimited access to Chatsworth House and Gardens with free car parking. Conditions do apply, please see below for more information. In addition, guests can pre-book a slot for the Chatsworth Health Club, where facilities include use of the gym, swimming pool and tennis court (additional charges apply).

Additional Information:

Two well-behaved dogs welcome (additional charge per dog, should a stay be longer than 7 nights, dogs are charged at £35 per dog, per week).

Children and infants welcome (travel cot, high chair and stair gate available on request. Please provide your own cot linen).

The garden is on multiple levels that are split via stone steps.

The bedding is non-feather.A time slot for use of the Health Club is bookable in advance at an additional charge.

At certain times of the year, multi-entrance tickets to Chatsworth House and Gardens are included for all Chatsworth collection cottages. These tickets give you unlimited access to Chatsworth House and Gardens, with free car parking for the duration of your stay. Holders of these multi-entrance tickets are also not required to book a time slot, so you have complete flexibility.

With these tickets, there’s no need to rush to view all of the wonders of Chatsworth, as you can return the following day on the same ticket to see what you missed or revisit your favourite part.

Please note that tickets must be collected from your cottage before visiting Chatsworth.

Multi-entrance tickets are not valid for admission to events such as the International Horse Trials and Country Fair. Please note the farmyard and playground are closed during the Country Fair.

Chatsworth tickets are single entry only over the Christmas period, between early November and early January (for specific dates, please click here). There will also be a few dates prior to our Christmas season where the house will be closed for dressing.

Important: Chatsworth House will be closed from early January to early mid March (for specific dates, please click here) so no tickets will be issued during this period.
