Gardener’s Cottage was the only property which remained standing when the 6th Duke of Devonshire completed his landscaping improvements in the 1760s. Whilst the entire village of Edensor was moved, Gardener’s Cottage was left untouched. Although the reasoning behind this remains somewhat a mystery, it is believed that the Duke of Devonshire made this decision because the cottage was out of sight of Chatsworth House, sitting in a natural dip, and therefore did not obstruct the magnificent rural views.

Upon arriving at Gardener’s Cottage, you are welcomed by the charming Grade II listed exterior of this beautiful three bedroomed cottage. The cottage was personally refurbished by the Duchess of Devonshire and now provides a beautiful, homely retreat for friends and family to escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.

With the accommodation over two floors, Gardener’s Cottage is a spacious yet cosy cottage with everything you could need for a home-from-home retreat. The well-equipped kitchen is the perfect place to cook up a wonderful feast to enjoy together in the traditionally furnished dining room.
