Guests have consistently praised The Beeches for its cleanliness, comfort, and idyllic location in the Peak District. The cottage is celebrated for its well-maintained garden, peaceful surroundings, and attentive owners. It serves as an excellent base for sightseeing, with many appreciating the secure garden for dogs. The property is well-equipped, though some minor suggestions for improvements were noted.

Cleanliness

Reviewers frequently mention the spotless condition of the cottage upon arrival, indicating high standards of cleanliness. One guest suggested improvements in cleaning tools provided, but this does not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback.

The property's location is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions and great walks. The peaceful setting and beautiful views contribute to a positive experience, although no specific drawbacks are mentioned.

The Beeches is well-equipped, offering essentials and more, according to guests. However, some noted the absence of a welcome booklet, a working hoover, and a mop and bucket. The dishwasher's accessibility was also a minor concern.

About this property

Winster 3.1 miles. The Beeches is a lovely, contemporary, detached dormer bungalow next to a working dairy farm and surrounded by beautiful countryside in the village of Aldwark, near Winster in Derbyshire. The Beeches is tastefully-finished throughout, making it perfect for a group of friends or family to enjoy this fabulous area of the Peak District National Park. The two double bedrooms are situated on the ground floor with a bathroom next door, making it suitable for a member of the group who is less mobile. The twin bedroom is on the first floor and benefits from an en-suite shower room as well as lovely views across the farm and surrounding countryside. The sleek kitchen has everything you need including a very useful breakfast bar with stools ideal for feeding little ones (and big ones for that matter!). There’s an inviting sitting room with a tasteful, glowing woodburning stove and a large dining table ideal for a banquet. From here, patio windows open out to the enclosed garden that wraps around the cottage so there’s always a chance to catch the sun wherever you are. There’s a porch for hanging kit and boots or drying off Fido and there’s also a secure shed if you wish to take bikes with you. It’s a perfect place to chill out, however there are loads of choices to make your stay action packed with plenty of walks including the High Peak Trail and the historic Minninglow planting, just a short hop from the property. The beautiful village of Winster and the heritage rich Cromford are easily reached by car, whilst the activities of Carsington Water are also located just a few miles away. Alternatively, for a good day out, head to Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, as well as Matlock, Bakewell, Monsal Head, and the picturesque town of Ashbourne, known as the Gateway to the Dales. Other places nearby and well-worth visiting are Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House, and Kedleston Hall. For even more enjoyment, a little further afield you’ll find Alton Towers, which will provide fun for all. The Beeches provides relaxing accommodation in a splendid part of the country, making it a great base for a family holiday any time of the year.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
