Guests say

The Old Candle House in Buxton is a cosy and well-equipped cottage praised for its cleanliness and comfort. Nestled in a quiet area, it's an ideal retreat for peace lovers and a convenient base for exploring the Peak District, with easy access to local attractions. The quaint village setting offers essential amenities, though some services have limited hours.

Guests consistently mention the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as 'beautifully clean & comfortable,' indicating a high standard of hygiene and care.

The location is appreciated for its quietness and convenience, with easy access to Buxton and other attractions. However, limited local shop hours and services slightly affect the score.

The cottage is repeatedly described as cosy and comfortable, with multiple settees and a log burning stove. The steep stairs and low ceilings are noted but are part of the property's character.

Facilities are generally praised as 'best equipped' and 'very well equipped,' though temporary issues with road and building maintenance, as well as steep garden steps, are mentioned.

While the reviews highlight the provision of essentials like dishwasher tablets and hand soap, there is no mention of gifts, so it is not possible to assess thoughtfulness in terms of gifts.

The cottage was cosy and comfortable with a lovely log burning stove. Longnor is a tiny and beautiful village with easy acces to Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth. So much to see and do nearby - we really enjoyed our stay.

A gem of a cottage, very cosy. Beautifully clean & comfortable. 2 settees makes it ideal for couples taking lazy days reading by the fire! Best equipped cottage I’ve ever stayed in, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, hand soap, kitchen roll, all those little things that add loads to packing list. It is a very quiet area, small local shop closes at 6, cafe not open all week etc, but that suits us as we love the peace & quiet, you seldom hear a car. It’s also a very convenient spot, Buxton is just down the road, & easy reach of Bakewell, Chatsworth & Lyme Park (Pemberley for Austin lovers) Dovedale, fantastic walking, etc. Hence we keep coming back!

Thoroughly recommended. Superb base to explore the Peak District. Would love to come back again. Charming little house. Very comfortable and well equipped. Stylish and practical. We did n't cook but the kitchen seemed to have everything. Set in a quaint little village, with a shop, fish and chip shop and pub with great food. Fantastic cafe we used for breakfast. In the property our only minor concerns were the steepnes of the stair case and low ceilings in doorways (but exactly as per the description) and the raised allotment outside the back bedroom window meant I was a little overlooked by the chap planting his veg. The parking space outside is a bit small unles you risk blocking the road but there is ample (free) parking on the street just round the corner. Also worth noting that the fish chip shop only opens 6-8, the pub does n't serve food on Sunday evenings and the beer is nothing to write home about. None of these things would make me hesitate to come back.
