Columbine Barn is a well-liked cottage in the Peak District, praised for its stunning location, comfortable beds, and underfloor heating. Guests appreciate the friendly host and the property's proximity to local amenities and attractions. Some concerns were raised about maintenance and cleanliness, but the overall experience is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
The property received mixed feedback on cleanliness. While some guests found it clean and welcoming, others noted areas that could be improved, such as kitchen utensils and bathroom facilities. The presence of fresh flowers suggests attention to detail, but the mention of a dirty toilet brush and untidy bedding storage indicates room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its beauty and convenience, offering easy access to local villages, pubs, and walking routes. The peaceful and picturesque setting is a highlight for many guests, contributing to a positive experience.
Guests find the beds and sofa comfortable, and the underfloor heating adds to the cosiness. However, some guests mentioned hard floors and uncomfortable seating in the living area, and concerns about the staircase being slippery. The mixed feedback suggests comfort is generally good, with some areas that could be enhanced.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a hidden freezer and stair gate being useful features. However, guests noted issues with parking, a lack of instructions for appliances, and maintenance concerns such as insecure power points and a dishwasher that didn't perform well. These points suggest that while the facilities meet basic needs, there is a need for better maintenance and clearer guest information.

Nestled in an idyllic position within a wildflower meadow with sheep and ponies grazing to the door, is this sympathetically renovated, detached barn, Columbine Barn. Set over two floors, this welcoming home is perfect for families and groups of friends looking to come together and enjoy this rural region, accessing the scenic splendour of the Peak District National Park. After parking up in the allocated off-road spaces, take a moment to appreciate the tranquil setting with a deep breath of fresh air. Discover the open-plan living space, boasting contemporary décor and well-presented fittings, here you can discuss plans for the next adventure or tune into the TV for some evening entertainment. Allow the chef of the group to relish in the kitchen, utilising an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher amongst the appliances. A dining bench is ideal for dinner times, while to the outside is a picnic bench, perfect for lunches in the sunshine. Wander upstairs to find the bedrooms, both laced with character and hosting a double bed and adult bunk. Oak furnishings and overhead wooden beams bring an almost traditional feel to this space, while the contemporary shower room with rainfall shower is where you can prepare for the day. When you’re ready to explore, from the doorstep there are footpaths including the Bradwell to Brough and Bradwell Edge routes, while the historic Derbyshire village of Bradwell contains clusters of traditional cottages and character houses, many of which date from the 18th to 19th centuries. There’s also three charming pubs, the Ye Olde Bowling Green Inn, the White Hart Inn and the Shoulder of Mutton, each offering their own character and charm, along with an ice cream shop selling the famous Bradwell Ice Cream, produced in the village since 1899. Explore Castleton further, home to interesting remnants of Peveril Castle, as well as a range of bars and stores to sample; walkers, bikers, and motorists may also enjoy the joys of Winnats Pass. Should exploration take you further afield, the Peak District is a haven for walkers, cyclists and anyone looking to make the most of the stunning scenery and all that the area has to offer. Columbine Barn is a peaceful retreat for a relaxing escape to the Peak District.
