Guests say

The Loft is a spacious, characterful cottage in a beautiful rural setting, much loved for its stunning views, friendly hosts, and welcoming dogs and horses. Guests particularly enjoy the hot tub and sauna, as well as the peaceful location and excellent walking opportunities nearby. While most found the property comfortable and well-equipped, some mentioned issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and the layout of bedrooms. Overall, the property offers a memorable countryside escape, especially for families and animal lovers.

Most guests found the property clean and tidy, but several reviews noted issues such as cobwebs, dirty kitchenware, and a need for better cleaning supplies. A few guests felt the property could benefit from a more thorough clean, especially in the kitchen and hot tub areas.

The location is widely praised for its beautiful countryside views, peaceful setting, and proximity to scenic walks and local pubs. Guests appreciated the rural charm and easy access to nearby attractions.

Many guests described the cottage as spacious and comfortable, with cosy beds and plenty of room for families. However, some found the layout challenging due to interconnecting bedrooms and low beams, and a few mentioned issues with temperature and worn-out furniture.

The hot tub and sauna are standout features, frequently highlighted as highlights of the stay. The property is generally well-equipped, though some guests noted maintenance issues with appliances, the hot tub cover, and a lack of certain essentials like towels and kitchen supplies.

Guests often found the hosts friendly and helpful, and appreciated being left to enjoy their stay with support available if needed. However, several reviews mentioned the absence of a welcome pack, local information, or basic supplies. Please note that gifts or extras are not guaranteed.

About this property

A superb, stone-built, Grade II listed detached cottage, in open countryside in the hamlet of Millthorpe, 5 miles from Baslow. Converted from a stable block, most of the accommodation is set over the first floor, including the split-level living room with cruck beams, a cosy sitting area and a games area with a bar billiard table. The accommodation offers exposed stonework and original beams, plus private use of a hot tub and sauna. The lovely courtyard garden provides fantastic views, whilst within walking distance is an award-winning pub, serving real ales and fabulous food. Within reach of the many walks and attractions of the area, this is an ideal base to get away from it all and enjoy the magnificent Peak District.

On the edge of the Peak District National Park between Bakewell and Sheffield is the hamlet of Millthorpe with splendid views of the Cordwell Valley. The hamlet is set among rolling countryside and the neighbouring villages are made up of traditional old houses and buildings. The area has a number of hostelries and restaurants waiting to be discovered and Hathersage is close by with more in the way of amenities. In the summer there is an outdoor pool, the churchyard is said to be the burial place of Little John, and Charlotte Bronte is thought to have got her inspiration for Jane Eyre after she had visited friends in Hathersage, so despite its small size, Millthorpe has had quite an influence on its surrounding area. With both the Peak District and Sheffield so close, Millthorpe is an ideal base for a holiday.

A perfect setting with lovely views. Owners were so welcoming and helpful. Super comfy beds, kitchen has plenty of pans, utensils etc. Great location for walking with great country pubs a short distance away. The hot tub and sauna was a great way to relax too. I highly recommend and would definitely revisit.

The owner was very welcoming and helpful during the course of my stay. Excellent value for money in a a stunning location. Will definitely be returning in the future!

Didn't realise how low the beams are in the bedrooms. There were no bins in the toilet or bedrooms which would have been useful. Not enough towels really. Not enough utensils. Hoover smelt of dog when I used it. The location was great. Hot tub and Sauna added bonus. Lovely homely place. Beds really comfy.
