Guests say

Hillside Cottage in Swinbrook is highly praised for its cleanliness, modern amenities, and beautiful location. Guests have enjoyed the comfortable and well-equipped property, celebrating special occasions and appreciating the local pub and village charm. Some minor maintenance issues and comfort concerns with beds were noted, but overall, the cottage offers a delightful stay.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean and well-presented, with only a single report of cleanliness issues upon arrival. This suggests that cleanliness is generally maintained to a high standard.

The location is consistently described as stunning, idyllic, and perfect for exploring the Cotswolds. Proximity to local attractions and the village pub is frequently mentioned with appreciation.

Guests have found the cottage comfortable, noting the quality of the bedrooms and living spaces. However, some guests mentioned the beds being uncomfortable and the house being stuffy due to locked windows, which affects the score.

Facilities are generally praised, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as leaks and problems with the shower and AGA, indicating room for improvement.

While guests have expressed gratitude for the hospitality and mentioned essentials being provided, there is no specific mention of gifts. Therefore, it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness based on gifts, and the score is set to null.

About this property

Hillside Cottage, Swinbrook is a stunning 5 star cottage, presented to the highest standard and without question one of the finest cottages in the Burford region. Voted Winner of The Best Holiday Cottage in the Cotswolds in 2019. The owners have overseen a superb renovation of one of the oldest cottages in this historic village to provide sumptuous (a word we haven't used on a cottage before!) self catering accommodation in a location that overlooks the village church - a truly quintessential spot. The kitchen is the real heart of the home: beautiful with high quality materials, and Aga and views across the enclosed garden. The four bedrooms and three bathrooms are similarly stylish, spacious and gorgeous. We are bowled over by this cottage (one of the team wants to move in!) and we are quite certain you will be too.

Burford, Oxfordshire is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.

Shame about the lack of Mobile phone signal, had to walk 3/4 mile to top of nearby hill to be able to send or receive.

Very beautiful. More beautiful than in the pictures. The bad experience - when the alarm turned off it was horrible. On another day there was smell of fire/smoke from outside the house that got in through all night and it was hard open the windows, and it was very hot. Also there was not air conditioning. And very important - the hot water in the shower wasn’t enough for 7 people. Despite all that - we had a lovely time (:

An open plan and well stocked kitchen for family gathering, books and games, many countryside (dog) walks, a lovely local pub and the owner clearly has a great eye for internal decor. The maintenance team was also very helpful and fast when we realized the outside table parasol was missing, coming round within a couple of hours to sort it out. There are some negatives that previous reviews have mentioned, it is starting to show wear; the rugs for example look quite grubby. There is also only one shower for up to 8 people. However my only really notable complaint, and it really is a big negative, is the quality of the beds. For the price you would expect large luxurious beds and this is not what you get. The beds are old (divans that are now stained and on the floor without valances), no headrests, extremely hard (even with a mattress topper) and desperately uncomfortable. Unfortunately the same kind of bed was in all the rooms. It’s a real disappointment, we would have immediately booked again for another year but the sleep quality was too poor and we all came away with aching backs. It would have been five stars if not for the beds and there only being one shower.
