About this property

This gorgeous, contemporary property sits on the edge of the village of Fulbrook, and lies less than one mile from the centre of Burford; one of the most popular destinations that The Cotswolds AONB has to offer. Sleeping 8 guests in 4 bedrooms Tawny Cottage is the ideal base from which to explore this beautiful part of the country. Having been completely refurbished, on entering the cottage you are immediately struck by the sense of light and space that the cottage has to offer, and the attention to detail is apparent at every turn. The large and inviting sitting room offers somewhere to relax and unwind, and in the colder months take advantage of the wood-burning stove to keep you warm and toasty. From the sitting room enter into the stunning open-plan kitchen/dining room. The kitchen offers every convenience you could wish for to create mouth watering delights, and the dining area is a lovely space where you can sit and relax with friends or family. On warmer summer evenings open up the bi-fold doors and enjoy the garden: a space for the younger members of your party to enjoy (or your four legged friend, safe in the knowledge that the garden is completely enclosed). The ground floor is also home to one of the four sumptuous bedrooms - this one complete with its own en-suite shower room (perfect should any members of your party suffer from mobility issues). Take the stairs to the first floor, where you will find the three remaining bedrooms: the king-size master suite, again with its own en-suite shower room (and Juliet balcony, from which you can enjoys views of the garden and countryside beyond), a further king-size room and a cosy twin room, both of which share the first floor family bathroom. Outside the cottage you have full use of the large garden - safe and fully enclosed for children and pets alike. From your front door turn left and you will find the delightful village of Swinbrook less than a mile away, and home to one of the most highly regarded pubs in the area - The Swan at Swinbrook (please be advised you will need to book). From your front door turn right, and you will the gorgeous town of Burford just a 20 minute stroll away and take advantage of the multitude of cafés, pubs and restaurants that the town has to offer, as well as visit the Tolsey Museum located in a 16th century building illustrating the town’s social and industrial past. A scenic drive can bring you to the equally delightful Bourton-on-the-Water (10 miles), known as the Venice of the Cotswolds, and Stow-on-the-Wold (10 miles), each steeped in rich heritage. A little further afield lies the lovely town of Woodstock, perhaps best known as the home of Blenheim Palace, the World Heritage site, and birthplace of Winston Churchill. For younger members of your party, two miles away you have both The Cotswold Wildlife Park, Cotswold Farm Park and rather surprisingly for rural Oxfordshire, Crocodiles of the World! Walkers and cyclists can take advantage of this wonderful Cotswolds location, soaking up the spectacular scenery of rolling countryside along a network of walking and cycling trails and bridleways. Explore the city of Oxford and its abundance of attractions, including its university, Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums and Botanic Gardens, and why not hop on a boat trip along the River Thames, before stopping off for a refreshing glass of wine at a pretty, riverside pub? Train links also provide easy access to London from local Stations or Oxford Park Way for a quick train to London with ample parking, ideal for a day trip in a bustling atmosphere. Never be short of things to do in the beautiful Cotswolds at Tawny Cottage.

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.
