Converted from a stone stable, this detached holiday cottage is situated in the owner’s grounds, has a homely, cosy interior and is set in an elevated position with stunning panoramic views of rolling countryside and fir forests with the River Inny meandering through the valley below. There are a variety of dog walks from the property. It is set midway between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor in the Tamar Valley and about 40 minutes from the north and south coasts. It is just five miles south of the historic town of Launceston with its iconic medieval castle set high on a hill. The Stables has its own cobbled south-facing courtyard with lawned garden. The owners live next door. The Springer Spaniel pub and restaurant is 1 mile and Tre Pol Pen farm shop and cafe is 2 miles away.

If you’re looking for a lovely holiday stay with all the mod cons and latest technology then this place is not for you… however if you’re looking for somewhere quiet, idyllic, rural, and with the most spectacular views of the Tamar Valley then this IS the place for you. Andy and Diana were brilliant hosts, very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. Diana showed us around the cottage when we first arrived, we also met Martha, their beautiful Labrador. Our dogs loved being able to walk around the adjoining field, with lots of fantastic sniffs and smells, and birds to watch from the windows. Andy very kindly allowed us to bring our tortoise as well, and he enjoyed his break too!While there isn’t a “welcome gift pack” as such, there was a very welcome pint of milk in the fridge and tea/coffee provided. The double bedroom is the best for the view, and is light and bright. We chose that room because of that, but found the single beds lumpy. Andy has assured us that they have now purchased mattress toppers for the beds, which won’t benefit us but will benefit the next guests ☺️I ended up sleeping in the darker bedroom with the double bed in, and that was comfy, and I slept much better here. The bathroom upstairs has no shower or shower attachment, but there is a shower cubicle in the loo downstairs.. one tip - if you need to move the shower head, use the white attachment on the pole rather than the shower head or it will come off in your hand. You can only change the temperature of the shower from outside the cubicle so be aware of this before you get in if you need to change it..The whole place wasn’t spotlessly clean, with cobwebs dotted around the place, and I did have to clean the bath before I used it, but the bed linen was immaculate and all the crockery etc was too, so it’s all cosmetic really. After all, we went for the excellent views and the peace and quiet. We visited the springer spaniel pub for a Sunday roast, and we were not disappointed at all. Absolutely delicious food from starter to pud, and with dogs being welcome (how can they not be with a name like that 😁) so there were loads to say hello to. The location of The Stables, being central, meant we could visit lots of fab beaches in all directions and do a spot of sight seeing. Highly recommend the white lady falls and Devils Cauldron (this one isn’t for the faint hearted as there are very narrow slippery paths, and steep rocky paths) if you’re a National Trust member then you’ll get in for free..We brought back some up to date pamphlets about things to do in Cornwall as the ones they currently had were a good few years out of date.. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, I am already missing the peace and quiet and the view, and I could quite happily stay there forever!!
