On high tide, the waves can burst onto the road just in front of the flat and on low tidal periods, it is possible to walk across the Towan beach behind the Crescent and Jago Island to Great Western. On New Year's Eve as part of Newquay tradition both residents and visitors wear fancy dress and costumes meeting at Central Square just above the Crescent.
