Polcreek Farmhouse in Veryan, Cornwall, is cherished for its peaceful, rural setting and historical charm. Guests appreciate the proximity to beaches and coastal paths, the spaciousness for families and pets, and the homely feel with interesting artefacts and books. While some maintenance issues are noted, the unique character and location often outweigh these concerns.
Reviews indicate a generally satisfactory level of cleanliness, with some guests finding the property well-prepared and others noting areas for improvement, such as mouse droppings and a clogged shower. The housekeeper's efforts are acknowledged, suggesting a commitment to cleanliness despite some oversights.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, stunning views, and accessibility to coastal paths and beaches. The farmhouse's secluded setting contributes to a peaceful atmosphere, which is consistently appreciated by guests.
Comfort levels are generally well-regarded, with guests enjoying the cosy atmosphere and character of the farmhouse. However, some guests mention the need for better heating in bedrooms and more comfortable mattresses, indicating room for improvement in this area.
Facilities are appreciated for their historical charm and homeliness, with a well-equipped kitchen and interesting nooks. However, maintenance issues such as delicate taps, a small TV, and a problematic shower are noted, suggesting that while the facilities have character, they could benefit from updates.
Guests have mentioned thoughtful touches like fresh flowers and a fruit loaf upon arrival, contributing to a welcoming experience. While such gestures are appreciated, it is politely noted that these are not guaranteed for every stay.
Polcreek Farmhouse is a splendid typically Cornish 17th century family house, in a tranquil setting at the end of a lane, 1¼ miles from Veryan. It is very private, only the occasional farmer herding sheep passes by. This is a wonderful place for a carefree large family gathering, or group of friends. The big living room has an open fire with the original slate and the equally big dining room has a sensible slate floor, through to the farmhouse-style kitchen with breakfast table and stools; there is also a ground floor WC and, ten paces from the kitchen door, an external room with shower toilet and basin ideal for sandy bodies.
Head upstairs to the four bedrooms, a king-size double and three twin rooms, lovely views from up here, but mind that low lintel on the landing! Also, a family bathroom. A peaceful family-friendly place in a great position for enjoying the lovely coastline. There is a small front garden and ½ acre of mown grassy space with rustic table and chairs. Carne and Pendower beaches are a mile away (the two merge at low-tide to give a mile of sand). National Trust land surrounds the house to a mile radius. If you can drag yourself away nearby St.Mawes and Mevagissey are worth a visit, along with the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project.

Loved the artwork. Fantastic peaceful location: could walk to the beach from the cottage, which was a real plus. Comfortable beds and sofas. The email instructions received after paying contained some inaccuracies. It was stated that there was a payphone at the property (and the number was given) but there is no payphone. The travel instructions provided did not make sense, and seem to have been cut and pasted incorrectly. There is no mention on the website of the long unsurfaced lane when approaching the cottage. We were only made aware of 'the bumpy, stony drive' after paying. A few short sections were extremely pot-holed and bumpy, which could have caused problems if we had had a low-slung car.

Will definitely return. Bit of a fly problem and a struggle with the electric shower but it did not spoil our stay.
