Located in the quiet rural hamlet of Patchole set in a cluster of stone built cottages, this converted Grade 2 listed detached holiday barn The Threshing Barn (ref hssw), offers a combination of both character and contemporary design. Spacious accommodation goes hand in hand with very good facilities and all the modern conveniences guests may require during their stay. There is a secure courtyard with a small grassed area, with garden table and chairs, immediately at the back of the barn, overlooked by the back of the owner’s farmhouse . There is a 3 acre paddock for walking pets and your self great for picnics too. Patchole is set in the heart of the North Devon countryside on the edge of Exmoor and is well suited for exploring this area. At Croyde and Woolacombe, some of the best and cleanest surf beaches in the country can be found, as well as many smaller coves and bays. Barnstaple, the regional town, offers a range of shops. Golf nearby. Shop 2 miles in Combe Martin, pub The Pyne Arms is 2 miles.

Very disappointing stayUnfortunately, our week at The Threshing Barn fell well below expectations, particularly given the cost. The property felt much smaller than shown in the photographs and offered very little privacy, with the owners’ house directly overlooking the barn and garden.The barn was unbearably hot, the beds were uncomfortable, and the lack of suitable bedding made sleeping difficult. We were also disturbed by the owners barking dogs most nights and building work on the neighbouring property from around 8am each weekday, which was far from the peaceful countryside break we had expected.We were disappointed with the cleanliness and maintenance, including cobwebs throughout, a poorly draining shower and inadequate basic supplies. On one occasion, we returned to find there was no electricity or running water, despite the owners having known about the issue for several hours without informing us.Sadly, the combination of heat, noise, lack of privacy, maintenance issues and poor communication made the stay so unpleasant that we left a day early. Overall, we felt the property was not accurately represented and did not provide value for money.
