As soon as you walk into the cottage, you’ll feel part of this seaside resort thanks to the pretty nautical touches dotted throughout. The interiors are calming and neutral, with a wood burner effect electric fire in the lounge to curl up in front of after a long day of walking. Make breakfast in the bright open-plan kitchen diner, ready to prepare you for the day, or make a light meal for supper before popping down to the middle floor to bed. It’s no problem that there’s no outside space at the property since you’re in the heart of Ilfracombe with access to walks along the South West Coast Path just 325 metres from your door.

Head just 500 metres through the town to Ilfracombe Harbour, where you’ll find Damien Hirst’s iconic sculpture Verity looking out over the Bristol Channel. You can also take a wildlife boat trip from the harbour to Lundy Island, where you may spot puffins, seals or even a pod of dolphins. If you don’t fancy cooking, there are many cafes and restaurants to choose from, so the family won’t go hungry. If it’s beautiful sands you’re after, nip to the 3-mile long beach at Woolacombe (8 miles).
