About this property

Rackenford 3.3 miles. Set on the outskirts of Knowstone, near the small village of Rackenford in Devon, is this 17th-century three-bedroom cottage, Moortown Cottage. Nestled on a working farm, with traditional features running throughout the abode, Moortown Cottage is perfect for families or groups looking for an escape to the Devonshire countryside; six guests and two well-behaved dogs are welcome. Travelling down the farm's country lane, enter the exclusive grounds of the cottage, parking up on the private driveway, enveloped by a lush green lawn and an inviting patio area; use this space to relax, prepare a barbecue, and admire the neighbouring ponies.

Entering the interior of the cottage, find yourself in the convenient utility room, boasting a range of laundry facilities and an adjoining cloakroom, offering the perfect place to freshen up after a hillside walk. Moving through to the kitchen/diner, be wowed by the character of the cottage, displayed through its preserved larder, exposed beams, stone tiles, and country-style kitchen; relax around the breakfast bar before preparing a home-cooked meal for your loved ones. Beyond here you will find a homely sitting room, both warm and snug, complete with a woodburning stove, Smart TV, DVD player, board games and a selection of books; keep your entire party entertained in this room.

The formal dining room completes the ground floor, delivering direct views out to the garden, embodying the stillness of nature. Heading to the first floor, be welcomed by three spacious bedrooms, all rich with history, well-positioned in front of the farm, displaying picturesque views from your bed; a family room with an en-suite, a double, and a single will be available, alongside a main bathroom. Strolling into the nearby villages, a traditional and friendly community will greet you, along with a village shop, several eateries, and cafes, perfect for dining out; The Masons Arms is popular in Knowstone, whilst The Stag Inn is recommended in Rackenford.

Situated just off the well signed Two Moors Way, an area spanning 102 miles from Ivybridge on the southern boundary of Dartmoor National Park, to Lynmouth on the North Devon coast in Exmoor National Park, there's always somewhere to explore. Further afield you'll find a wealth of attractions to delve into, from visits to Watermouth Castle, and strolls around Tarr Steps, to hikes around Exmoor National Park. Head to Quince Honey Farm and harvest your own jar of honey, visit the residents of Exmoor Zoological and Conservation Centre, or tour the grand landscape of Tapeley Park. By car, travel towards Tiverton Castle, discover the county's heritage at Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life, or aboard a unique railway experience at Devon Railway Centre.

Enjoy the Devonshire countryside by booking Moortown Cottage as your abode.

Agriculture is still the main single source of employment in the little community of Rackenford, which is surrounded by farms. Unlike many small villages, there is still a school, a village shop, a typical village pub, The Stag Inn, and a social club, all of which contribute to a strong sense of community. Village Day on Rackenford Common, the November 5th bonfire, and the Garden Club's spring and autumn exhibits, to name a few, are all worth seeing. A fantastic village with a thriving community!

Vicky and Dave are very pleasant couple, her fruit cake was amazing. The only downfall is signage to the cottage from the Lane start, the 3/4 mile drive to the cottage is horrendous on our view. Understand they need all four houses to agree the cost for an updated road with one property on sale. Otherwise a very comfortable holiday.
