About this property

Kingsbridge 2.5 miles. The White Cottage is a delightful detached thatched cottage in South Milton near Kingsbridge, Devon. With an open fire, enclosed garden and a welcome for four-legged companions, it makes an appealing base for families and friends looking to spend time together on the South Devon coast. Park up at the rear before taking in the cottage's traditional thatched exterior and heading inside to start your stay. Make your way into the kitchen, where exposed timbers and a Belfast sink add character while you prepare a family favourite using the electric oven and induction hob. Keep drinks chilled and ingredients fresh in the fridge and freezer, then load everything into the dishwasher afterwards and leave the washing-up behind.

Just off the kitchen, the ground-floor double bedroom offers a handy sleeping arrangement before you step up into the living/dining room. Here, the inglenook fireplace sets the scene for evenings spent in front of the open fire, whether you sink into one of the sofas for a film on the Smart TV or gather around the dining table for a meal for six and catch up on the day's adventures. When it is time to turn in, climb the oak staircase to find two further bedrooms, with a king-size room featuring its own Smart TV and a twin offering another place to rest ahead of tomorrow's activities.

Start the morning in the family bathroom, choosing a soak in the bath or an invigorating shower over before heading off to discover more of Devon. Back downstairs, step outside into the enclosed rear garden and take breakfast to the stone patio, settle around the garden furniture with a drink or let the dogs spend some time on the lawn while you enjoy the fresh air. A separate outhouse gives you somewhere to leave walking boots after days on the coast and also houses the washing machine and an additional WC. When you are ready to explore the local area, pick up supplies from the nearby shop, stop at the pub for a drink or make your way to the beach for a day by the sea.

Spend time at Thurlestone Sands, where you can take to the water for a swim, search the rock pools along the shore and join the nearby South West Coast Path for a coastal walk. Head to Salcombe to stroll beside the waterfront, browse the town's shops and admire the surrounding estuary scenery. Alternatively, visit Dartmouth to wander its historic streets, explore its attractive harbour and enjoy the town's riverside setting. Bantham provides further inspiration for days beside the sea, while Kingsbridge offers shops and a waterside setting, and Totnes is another option for a day exploring South Devon. After a day of coast and countryside adventures, return to The White Cottage for dinner together, an evening in front of the open fire and another chance to enjoy the enclosed garden before your next Devon outing.

The busy little town of Kingsbridge lies at the head of a marine estuary in the attractive South Hams area of South Devon. Kingsbridge is home to a range of lovely independent shops and coffee shops, as well as a 3-screen cinema and an award-winning pub. During the summer season there are estuary excursions by ferry to Salcombe which lies on the banks of the Kingsbridge Estuary, making it one of the prettiest towns in South Devon. Salcombe is famous for its outstanding coastal views, rolling countryside, and is a watersports paradise for kayaking, surfing, paddle boarding and powerboating. It is packed with boutique shops, high street brands and independent producers, restaurants serving freshly caught seafood, and Salcombe Gin and Ice cream! Kingsbridge is perfectly located as a base to enjoy the abundant wildlife in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (aonb), which also forms part of the South Devon Heritage Coast. Visitors can take a walk along the Kingsbridge Quay, wander through the narrow alleys off Fore Street or visit the Shambles in Totnes, an Elizabethan market arcade. Around the South Hams area there are picturesque ports, such as Dartmouth and Salcombe, together with sandy beaches at Blackpool Sands near Stoke Fleming and the two sandy beaches at Thurlestone. There are a host of small attractive villages in South Hams offering interesting pubs, local farm produce shops and pretty rows of cottages, plus further afield the waterfront city of Plymouth is a vibrant centre, housing the National Marine Aquarium, historic Barbican Quay and plenty of night life, including theatres, restaurants and bars. Kingsbridge can be easily reached by train to Totnes and then a local bus service which will take you to Kingsbridge town centre.
