About this property

This peaceful cottage is situated along an impressive drive lined with beech trees and is attached to a Victorian rectory in the hamlet of Harford on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. The accommodation is stylish and smart, with a lovely sitting room where you can relax on leather sofas beside the wood burning stove. The good sized kitchen with its granite worktops and dining area has glass doors to a sunny courtyard where you can enjoy leisurely barbecues. Head upstairs and you will find the two bedrooms and a bathroom. The outside space is lovely, with 40 acres of bluebell meadows and woodland to wander and spot all kinds of wildlife.

Beyond the grounds, you can head directly on to open moorland to explore the wilds of Dartmoor. This is a fascinating area of the moors, with ancient stone circles and cairns and then the River Erme valley is a wonderful contrast with its watery beauty. For shops, head to Ivybridge two miles distant, and beaches don't come much lovelier than Mothecombe which is just 10 miles away and was used for filming International Velvet, Sense and Sensibility and My Cousin Rachel. Butterbrook Coach House is a splendid retreat for a restful break.

The ancient Stannary town of Ashburton lies on the southern slopes of Dartmoor and is an ideal spot from which to explore the rugged high moors to the North and a beautiful coastline to the South. The scenery in this area of South Devon is glorious in all weathers and offers visitors opportunities for walking, pony trekking, canoeing, fishing and lazing on the beach.

The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are very comfortable (like the new mattress !) and there is plenty of fuel for the wood burner, with access from the cottage straight onto Dartmoor this is a great place to recharge. Thanks again Heather and David for being such kind hosts.

  • Sarah

Beautifully cosy and so well appointed with the added bonus of plenty of storage throughout which is often lacking in other rentals. Heather and David were so friendly and were on hand next door if we ever needed them. The bountiful amount of logs for the burner along with fresh flowers and a cracking bottle of red only made us feel more welcome. A highly recommended place to stay for a weekend or more as very central for lots of places around the South Hams.

The owners were so lovely and helpful, the place is bigger and nicer than pictures show and it has everything you need. Beautifully decorated and lovely touches like the wood burner and logs and lovely sheets and towels. We would definitely return here again.
