Guests say

The Shippen is a beautifully converted barn in a tranquil countryside setting, praised for its peaceful atmosphere, well-equipped kitchen, and welcoming hosts. Guests appreciated the comfortable accommodation, thoughtful touches, and excellent base for exploring North Devon. While most found the property clean and cosy, a few noted issues with damp in one bathroom and towel odours. The lack of WiFi and washing machine was mentioned but did not detract significantly from the overall positive experience. The welcome pack, often including homemade cake and local produce, was a delightful surprise for many guests.

Most guests found the cottage very clean and well maintained, though a few mentioned issues such as mould in one ensuite bathroom and occasional towel odours.

The property is highly praised for its peaceful, rural location with easy access to local attractions and the North Devon coast, making it an excellent base for exploring the area.

Guests consistently described the cottage as comfortable and cosy, with good sleeping arrangements and a relaxing atmosphere. One review mentioned low seating, but this was a minor concern.

The cottage is well equipped, especially the kitchen, and offers en-suite bedrooms. Some guests noted the absence of a washing machine and WiFi, and one reported a maintenance issue with damp.

Many guests appreciated the warm welcome and thoughtful touches such as homemade cake, fresh eggs, milk, and even dog biscuits. Please note that these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

Lovely quiet and peaceful down a narrow track owner very friendly with a great greeting pack the milk come from the local farm via a machine 24/7 and cheaper than the supermarket found it fairly clean two double rooms on suite a good size the is no WiFi and poor signal so battery doesn’t last long best past up the hill in the meadow next door the only downside the towels smell a bit but if you put the heated towel rail on that will dry the towels and get rid off the smell in general a good base for getting out and about we would go there again

The Shippen is a little piece of heaven, peace and tranquility. Ideally set in the North Devon countryside not far from Bideford and local areas. The accomadation is immaculate, well equipped, and in and located on the site of the family farm/home, in an idillic location. Jane & Paul the owners/hosts are very friendly and welcoming, and informative about their site and the surrounding area. Jane's welcome pack (cake, eggs & milk) are a welcome and pleasant surprise. Their is a pasture nearby where you can exercise your dog, Freddie our Yorkshire Terrier loved it, lots of other walks too if you wish to wander further. A truly magic spot, which we hope to be able to return too soon. Colin, Sheila, Jean (MiL) and Freddie
